The mills also supplied electricity to a small number of houses before electricity was widely available. It was automatically shut off each night at 11 o'clock when an alarm clock tripped a rat trap which pulled a pin closing the sluiceway (34)!
Mr. Garth Walton of Bayfield, New Brunswick, a lumbennan, purchased the Crosby mill property from Everett Crosby in 1950 (35). It is believed he pulled down the saw mill and used the grist mill as a bunkhouse for his crew which ran his diesel powered saw mill. Mr Walton ran his mill on the site for about three years (3 2). In 1954 he sold the mill site to the Provincial government but whether he tore down the grist mill, or it was done for the government, is unknown (3 6).
