FISH PACKING PLANT An invoice dated 7th November 1947 for 526 barrels of gaspereau has on its letterhead that there was a plant in Bonshaw . This was an overstatement, but one of the warehouses on the wharf was used for a number of years salting and packing gaspereau. Stewart McNevin was noted as having shipped the 526 barrels and received $3,945, less $1548.70 for the barrels and salt (33). It is believed the packing plant operated for about 6 weeks a year between 1946 and 1952. Mr Degal of Mimnegash came to Bonshaw to organize and supervise the netting and packing of the fish (32). The local children were paid $.25 per barrel for the packing. The barrels were trucked to the railway then transshipped to Trinidad (43). Warehouse and wharf circa 1935 courtesy of Eric Ferguson 63
