CHAPTER VI HOUSES

This chapter includes photographs of a number of houses that no longer exist in Bonshaw or have been changed significantly. The authors have included these photographs as it was felt these

houses illustrated the various architectural styles which were representative of the community and help add to the flavour of what life was like in Bonshaw.

A number of houses also had names; (1,2). "Bonshaw Mills", the Crosby house next to the mills. (see below)

"Alps", Cyrus Crosby's, stood slightly west of where the Bonshaw 500 entertainment Centre is today.

"Hillside", the Carson house overlooking the St. Catherine's road intersection. (3)

"Bonshaw House", the W.W. Irving house. (see Chapter 1 and the floor plans in this chapter)

"Hilltop Farm", the McRae farm, now owned by David Gibson.

Bonshaw's oldest surviving house may be the log building at "Hillcrest farm" or the current

house, believed built in 1841 (4). The farm was formerly owned by the Boyce family and is now owned by Bill Best.
