A copy reproduced in "Acts of the Privy Council, 1766-83, Colonial Series, Volume 5," is entitled:— A plan of the Island of St. John, in the province of Scotia, in , 1765 ( Samuel Holland ). In the text this map, which is the map of Holland consulted by the compiler, is referred to as "Holland, 1765." The library of the Colonial office in London has the following very large scale manuscript plan:— A plan of the Island of St. John in the province of Scotia, as surveyed agreeable to the order and instructions of the Right Hon. The Lords Com¬ missioners of Trade and Plantations. By Captain Holland , Surveyor General of H.M .'s Lands for the , with the assistance of Lieut . Haldimand and others 19th September, 1765. Few names are found added on subsequent maps, which include the follow¬ ing:— A map of the Island of St. John in the Gulf of St. Lawrence , Divided into Counties and Parishes, and the Lots as granted by Government to which are added the Soundings round the Coast and Harbours. Improved from the late survey of Capt. Holland . Published as the Act directs, 1775. Scale 4 miles to 1 inch. In the American Atlas.....by Thomas Jefferys , Geographer, to the King and others. London, 1775. A similar map is found in "The Atlas, selected from the most authentic maps, charts, plans, etc., hitherto published printed for "Wm. Faden, Geographer to the King, London, 1776," and in "The Pilot for Newfoundland , Labrador , the Gulf and river St. Lawrence ..... London, 1775." In succeeding years numerous editions of these atlases were published with the same map slightly altered. There were editions of one or other in 1777, 1791, 1794, 1807, and 1810. The changes if any being new roads and settle¬ ments. A like map on a scale of 8 miles to one inch accompanies John Stewart 's "An account of Prince Edward Island ," published in 1806.
