Avondale; settlement, lot 49. An Irish settlement. Named after the birthplace and residence in the Wicklow hills of Charles S. Parnell, the Irish nationalist. Pisquid Road was the post office name until November 1, 1901. Avondale post office closed May 15, 1914.
Aylesbury; cape, lot 18. Holland, 1765. Burke’s “Peerage” spells Ailesbury. After wife of the Duke of Richmond. Refer to Richmond.
Bacon; cove, lot 65. Holland, 1765. After Edward Bacon, Lord Commissioner of Trade and Plantations, 1759—65, sometime M.P. for Norwich.
Bacon; point, lot 62. See Bell.
Back Road; settlement, lot 49. There are two roads hereabouts. The settlement is on that “back” from the water.

Balderston; brook, lot 31. In 1822 John Balderston, Lincolnshire, England, came to the island and located at Belfast. He was a millwright and is said to have built the first wind- mill on the island, utilizing it to grind grain. His son Benjamin, born in England, also a millwright and farmer, moved to lot 31 about 1857. He died in February, 1876, aged 73 years.
Baldwin‘ Road; settlement, lot 51. After Thos. Baldwin, general merchant and farmer, who died abodlt 18175. There was a post office of the name in 1855. Settled by Irish immigrants 1839 an 184 .

Baltic; creek and settlement, lot 18. Baltic creek on chart, 1850. The name appears to date from the Napoleonic wars when there was a heavy timber export trade from the Maritime provinces owing to the Baltic timber ports being closed to British commerce. '
Baltic; railway station, lot 46. East Baltic post office is in lot 46.
Bangor; settlement, lot 40. A gazetteer name selected at a public meeting about 1879. Earlier ’ nown as Indian Town Road, because the road led from Morel settlement to an Indian reserve.
Banks; point, lot 56. Chart, 1850. After a settler. Meacham, 1880, shows Wm. Banks resident here.
Baptiste; point and creek, lot 9. John O. Arsenault, St. Chrysostom, lot 13, writes: “Baptiste was one of the first men who settled in (Egmont bay) St. Chrysostome. I remember my father and Baptiste’s son, Hilarion, going to the point for marsh hay. Probably Baptiste was the first to go there for hay, hence the name.” Percival point on Holland, 1765. Barbara Weit; river, lot 19. Barbara Weit on chart 1850. The spelling Barbara Weit is found in the “Prince Edward Island Register,” 1830, and it was also a post office name in 1855. Barbara Weed in old lease, dated 1809, on Wright 1852 and on A. T. Todd plan, 1871. ‘Lease, 1884 to John McMillan from Andrew Thornton Todd has Barbary Weed, hence a suggestion that the name was originally Barberry Weed, (barberry—common shrub with red berries) but in a letter dated St. Eleanors, March 30, 1906 from Mr. H. G. Compton, grandson of Hon’ble Harry Compton, who came to the island in 1804, it is stated that the river commemorates the wife of George Waite who settled near it, 1804.
Barclay; pond, lot 12. Barclays in Meacham, 1880, which shows Jas. Barclay owner of mills here.
Barges (étang des); pond, lots 34 and 35. Name used by de la Roque, 1752; Wright, 1852 and Wright and Cundall, 1874 have étang du Berge. Barge or berge means flboat.” Chart and Meacham, 1880, show three ponds hereabouts, sand deposrts havmg ev1dently altered the configuration of the land.
Basin; head, lot 47. Lake, 1863.
Bass; cove, lot 32. Bass were taken here at one time, but not now.
Battery; point, lot 59. Refer to Brudenell.
Battery: point, lot 48. Chart, 1846. Pointe :2» Marguerite of French map, 1749. Both French and English seem to have had guns here to protect Charlottetown harbour.
Battery; point, lot 35. Name given to a point at the mouth of Erenchfort creek on chart N0. 1711, survey 1943—44.
Bayfield; settlement, lot 46. Formerly Bull Creek. After Admiral Henry Wolsey Bayfield (1795-1885), who surveyed the coast of Prince Edward Island for the Admiralty between the years 1842 and 1845.
