Hyde was head of family of nine, four males and five females, in this township, according to census, 1798. A family of this name came out in the same year as Governor Patterson (1770). Bayfield 's "Sailing Directions," 1847, has St . Jacques river and men¬ tions St . Jacques church on it, but the local name is Jacques river. An 1826 plan ot the lot shows la river St . Jacques and Jaco 's creek a tributary to it. John O. Arsenault , ot St. Chrysostom , an octogenarian school teacher, claims to recollect an old settler named Jacques on the river near McNally's mill. Commissioner for Trade and Plantations, 1767. McDougal point of chart. Soame Jenyns was born in London in 1703 or 1704. His father was Sir Roger Jenyns , K.T. The family belonged to Churchill , Somersetshire. Soame was educated at Cambridge and thereafter indulged literary tastes, publishing anonymously in 1727 "The Art of Dancing," a poem in two cantos. Soon after ids father's death, at the general election in 1742 he was chosen one of the representatives of the county of Cambridge , from which time he sat in parliament until 1780, representing Cambridge county or borough during those 38 years, except from 1754-58, when he repre- 1
