ISLAND [1886. \ The rate of Postage on a letter posted within the Dominion of Canada, for transmission by Mail to any place in Canada, is three cents per half ounce weight ; but the Statute pro- vides that this rate must be prepaid by Postage Stamp at the time of posting the letter. Any such letter posted wholly unpaid (or prepaid less than one full rate of ”tree cents) cannot be forwarded to its destination, but will he sent to the Dead Letter Office, with the reason plainly written or marked upon it—“poslage not prepaid." O'n letters posted at an office to be delivered from it, commonly known as “ drop letters,” the rate is one cent per % oz. ; to be in all cases prepaid by postage stamp affixed to such letters when posted. The charge for the Registration of a letter is 2 cents, to be prepaid by Registration stamp. CANA DA AND NEWFOUNDLAND. Letters for Newfoundland are charged at the rate of five cents per half ounce, and must in all cases beprepazl Post Cards 2 cents. The Registration fee to Newfoundland is the same as to places withing the Dominion, and must in all cases be pre- paid by Registration stamp. CANADA AND THE UNITED STATES. The rate of postage upon letters passing by mail between Canada and the United States is the same as to places within the Dominion, and must in all cases be prepaid by postage stamp, one rate, viz : 3 cents The Registration fee to the United States is 5 cents, to be prepaid by Registration stamp.
