The soil of the Island is str’ong and rich, and for a long me, if attention is paid to rotation, good crops can be tained with but little manure. The soil is particularly lopted for wheat, oats and potatoes. There are many 1at hogs said to be of excellent quality, and may some 1y afford good fuel. The union of P. E. Island with the uminion‘of Canada, took place on the first of' July 1873, 11cc which time the progress of the Island has been rapid, ml the export trade more than doubled.
The population at the last census (188]) was one hundred 1d eight thousand eight hundred and ninety-one, which is 1pposed to have increased to one hundred and eleven MUSELHCI.
