The dark green woods form a splendid back ground to the rich farms that tip the waters edge, and at some points terminating in abrupt headlands and steep red banks with a long line of splendid beach at their base. A splendid bay is formed by Cape Traverse River, with Carlton point on the right, and Cape Traverse on the left. Boating and sea bathing are the favourite pastimes here and for such there are ample facilities. Here the tourist enjoys good trout fishing in Cape Traverse and other rivers. The shores, meadows, and marshes, abound in plover, snipe, and duck, while the straits afford some of the finest mackerel fishing. The air at this place is the purest, and the water the clearest that can be met at any point along the straits, this together with the temperature, which is most agreeable during the summer months, contributes largely to make the Cape one of the most attractive points along the Island coast. Along this shore is seen the long low line of New Brunswick coast, terminating in Cape Tormentine, only a distance of nine miles across the strait. Whilst the con- tinued passing and repassing of numerous steamers, vessels, and boats on the blue waters of this narrow strait adds vivacity and interest to the natural scenery. Cape Traverse is a stirring little Village. The “ Lansdowne " hotel, Alex. Strang, proprietor, is in every way as good as could be Wished for; in connection with which are conveniently situated bathing houses, sail boats, and other attractions and conveniences necessary for a full round of amusement and recreation. The View from the hotel is in all directions splendid, and those who wish to spend a pleasant vacation in a delightful spot will find the realization 0f their desires in a visit to Cape Traverse. The drives round about and into this highly cultivated section of the country are very pleasant, and the walks along the shores and on the lengthy pier running a considerable distance out Into the waters of the strait, form a splendid promenade during a fine summer day. Leaving Cape Traverse for the west, we touch at the thriving village of Mott’s Chocolate, Grateful and Comforting.
