Alaska: 7 mi SE of O’Leary in Lot 10. School district c1903. Said to be named because the people “at last” had a school at the time of the great gold rush to Alaska and the Yukon.

Albany: 4 mi NE of Borden in Lot 27. Pos— sibly named for the Duke of Albany (1853- 1884), son of Queen Victoria. PO from 1867. School district 1886.

Alberry Plains: 7 mi NW of Montague in Lots 49 and 50. Named by Edward Plaidwell c1856 for school because there was an

abundance of wild fruit after a fire. PO 1890-1914.

Alberton: Town incorporated 1913 in Lot 4. Named by Benjamin Rogers for Albert Edward Prince of Wales, later Edward VII, who visited Charlottetown in 1860. PO Cascumpec 1839—1868; PO Alberton from 1868. Formerly called Stumptown.

Alberton Creek: Flows S into Dock River, Lots 4 and 5. Hill 1821 Eliza River; Bay— field 1851 and Meacham 1880 Dock Creek.

Alberton Harbour: At Alberton, Lot 5. Named by Samuel Holland 1765 Holland Harbour, for Henry Fox, lst Baron Hol- land of Foxley.

Alberton South: 1 mi S of Alberton, Lot 5. Formerly called Lewis Town for Edward Lewis, proprietor of Lot 5, Hills Town for Lewis’s agent, John Hill, and Nortliport. Possibly Cascumpec PO 1839-1868 was here before Alberton developed as a rail- way centre c1872.

Albion: 5 mi SE of Montague in Lots 59 and 61. Probably derived from Albion Bay, which is shown on Cundall 1851 at the location of present Albion. The bay there is now called Clarks Bay. Albion Mills is shown on Bayfield 1850.

Albion Bay: See Georgetown Harbour.

Albion Cross: 11 mi W of Souris in Lot 55. School name c1881. Probably derived from the ancient name for England. Formerly known as Baltic and Little Baltic.

Alchorn Point: Extends into Charlottetown Harbour, Lot 65. People of that name still live there. On Bayfield 1846. Verrier 1734 Pte. St. Charles; French plan 1749 Pointe de la Croix. See also Canceaux Point.

Alexandra: 5 mi SE of Charlottetown in Lot 49. Named for Alexandra Caroline Marie Charlotte Louisa Julia who married Albert Edward, later Edward V11, 1863. Noted in JHA 1870. PO 1884—1915.

Alexandra Bay: Adjacent to Hillsborough Bay, Lot 49. Bayfield 1846, Meacham 1880 and NTS 11 L/3 1967 Squaw Bay. Named by the French anse de Matelot (sailor’s cove). In Micmac Ogosikcheech, “little place where goods are landed”.

Allisary: l 1/2 mi E of Mount Stewart in Lots 37 and 38. Noted in JHA 1839 as property of Allan Macdonald of Allisary. Probably named for Alisary on Loch Ailort in Arisaig, Inverness, Scotland. Allisary Creek is a small tributary of Hillsborough River.

Alliston: 3 mi N of Murray River in Lot 63. Named for John Allis, a former British soldier who settled there, dying c1895. PO 1896-1914.
