Alma: 4 mi NW of Alberton. Possibly indi- rectly named from battle in Crimea, 1854. Alma was the name of a 356~ton vessel built in 1854 for James Yeo of Port Hill. PO 1876-1967. School district 1878.
Amherst Cove: See Warren Cove.
Amherst Point: Extends into Northumberland Strait, 1 mi E of Borden. Named by Samuel Holland 1765 for Field Marshal the Rt. Hon. Sir Jeffery Amherst (1717—1797). Amherst captured Louisbourg in 1758 and was rewarded with the appointment of Commander in Chief in North America. After receiving the surrender of Canada in 1760 he became Governor General of Canada, returning to England in 1763 where he held various posts until his death. Cundall 1851 Mclnm's Point. Anderson Creek: Flows N into New London Bay, 1 mi NE of Stanley Bridge, Lot 22. Named for Robert Anderson who was born at New London of Scottish parents, and
settled at the creek c1816. In Meacham 1880.

Named by James Johnston c1868, pioneer shipbuilder and trader who was born in Annandale, Dumfries, Scotland in 1837 and came to PEI in 1840 with his parents who settled at Lower Montague. Appin Road: 5 mi E of Crapaud in Lot 30. Probably named for Strath of Appin, Perth- shire, or for Appin, Argyllshire, Scotland. The road was constructed in 1862. PO 1887-1913. Lake 1863 Glenfinglas.
