Barlows Pond: At Wellington, Lot 16. Named for John Barlow who came from England to Lot 12 in 1832, and established grist and saw mills at Wellington in 1859. The road from Tyne Valley to Freeland also bears his name.

Basin Head: Extends into Northumberland Strait, 7 mi E of Souris. Named for Basin Head Harbour because its shape is like a basin.

Basin Head Harbour: Probably havre de l’Escoussier of Pichon 1760.

Bass Cove: Adjacent to West River in Lot 32.

Bass were taken here at one time but not in the 1920s (Douglas 1925).

Battery Point: Extends into Charlottetown Harbour, Lot 48. Site of York Battery. The French may have had guns there to protect the harbour. On Bayfield 1846. French map 1749 Pointe a Marguerite;

Battery Point: Extends into Hillsborough River at the mouth of Millers Creek in Lot 35. Holland 1765 refers to “Decay of French Battery” in Lot 35. On Bayfield 1843-44.

Bayfield: 9 mi N of Souris in Lot 46. Named for Admiral Henry Wolsey Bayfield (1795- 1885) who surveyed the coast of PEI for the Admiralty between 1842 and 1845 and lived in Charlottetown from 1841 until his death. PO Bull Creek 1873-1881; PO Priest Pond 1881—1892;PO Bayfield1892- 1914.

for a store opened there in 1805 by Lemuel Cambridge.

Bear River: 6 mi NW of Souris in Lots 43 and 44. PO 1876—1968. School districts in 1880

were Bear River Road North and Bear River Road South.

Bear River: Flows N into Gulf of St. Law- rence, Lot 44. It is reported that Roderick MacDonald killed a 600 pound bear there about 1820 after a four-hour fight.
