Christopher Cross: 3 mi N ofTignish in Lot 1. School district 1878. Named for Patrick Christopher who had a blacksmith shop on the corner opposite the school, and lived there from 01830.

Church Creek: Former name for small creek flowing E into Gulf of St. Lawrence at Kil— dare Capes. Meacham 1880 identifies it, and shows “Eng Ch.” (for English Church) beside it.

Churchill: 10 mi W of Charlottetown in Lots 31 and 65. Named for Winston Spencer Churchill who was a famed South African correspondent in 1900 when the name was given, and also named for the occurrence of a Church on the hillside. Although its origins from Winston Churchill are dis-

puted, the name does not occur in official records before 1900. PO 1900-1913.

Church Road: Extends from Midgell south to Bennett Road, Lot 40. Former school dis- trict name 1895. PO Maple Leaf 1903- 1913; Maple Leaf is on NTS 11 L/71967 although not known locally.

Clarke Point: See Meadowfoot Point.

Clarkes Pond: In PEI National Park at Caven- dish, Lot 23. Census 1798 lists Wm. Clark in Lot 23. Meacham 1880 shows Andrew

and Wm. D. Clark there, and Cummins 1925 has Ernt. Clark.

Clarke’s Mills: PO 1890-1899 in Wilmot Val- ley, Lots 19 and 25.

Clark Point: On Bayfield 1850 for a point extending into Tryon River, Lot 28. Meacham 1880 shows Elijah Clark with property there.

Clarks Bay: Adjacent to Cardigan Bay, Lot 59. There are various families with this name in the area of Lower Montague, but neither Meacham 1880 nor Cummins 1925 show a Clark adjacent to the bay. Named by Samuel Holland 1765 Livingston Bay, possibly for a settler, William Livingston, noted there in a census return of 1768. Bayfield 1850, Meacham 1880 and NTS 11 L/2 Livingstone Bay; Cundall 1851 Albion Bay. Formerly known as Thornton Bay.

Clarks Creek: Flows S into Bentick Cove, Lot 16. Meacham 1880 Shemody Creek. Cum- mins 1925 does not name it, but shows Melvin Clark resident there. NTS 11 L/5 1953 Rush Creek; NTS 11 L/5 1967 Russ Creek. Also known as Rose/rill Creek.

Clarks Creek: Flows N into Hillsborough River, Lot 37. Named for Richard Clark, first settler and miller there. Meacham 1880 Mill Brook with George, Andrew, Haveland, James and Alfred Clark as prop- erty owners. PEI Directory 1880-1881 lists John Clark as owner of carding, grist and saw mills.
