Crossman Creek: Flows S into Bedcque Bay, Lot 17. Benjamin Crossman leased land there 1816. Meacham 1880 Crossmans Ck, but no one by that name is shown nearby. Cundall 1851 Belony’s Creek; Douglas 1925 Belony Creek, for Belony Perry, merchant, who owned land nearby.

Cross River: Flows N into Gulf of St. Law- rence, Lot 45. Possibly named because it was an Indian portage route from Souris River to the gulf.

Cross River: Former school district at Mac- Dougall, 5 mi S of Tyne Valley. No stream bears this name although Bayfield 1850 and Wright and Cundall 1874 show it on Mill Creek, Meacham 1880 shows it on Shipyard Creek and NTS 11 L/5 1967 has it on Little Trout River. Douglas 1925 has Cross Creek for Mill Creek. The name was probably derived from the school’s position across the Grand River.

Crossroads: 2 mi SE of Charlottetown where the Old Georgetown Road (now Trans- Canada Highway) and the Georgetown Road leading S over Tea Hill met. Noted in JHA 1832. Meacham 1880 has Cross Roads, and also Newton 1 mi E. PO Lot 48 1888-1905; PO Cross Roads Lot 48 1905— 1906; PO Lot 48 1906—1907; PO Hillsboro Lot 48 1907-1916.

Crown Point: Extends into Pownal Bay and Hillsborough Bay, Lot 49. Named because it is shaped like a crown. Named by Samuel Holland 1765 Pownell Peninsula. Correctly shown on Lake 1863 and in Meacham ’1880. Bayfield 1846 Pawnell Peninsula 0r Crown Point; NTS ll L/3 1967 Pownal Peninsula. Recent charts and maps applied Crown Point to the southwest point known as Jardines Point. In Micmac Oojegujech, “stumpy place”.

Cuddys Point: Extends into Murray River, Lot 64. Meacham 1880 has James Cuddy there, and Cummins 1925 indicates J., Silas and Clarence Cuddy.

Cudmores Corner: See Oyster Bed Bridge.

Culloden: 8 mi W of Murray River in Lot 60. Named for Culloden Moor, Inverness, Scotland. School district Cl 856. PO Selkirk Road 1872-1919; PO Culloden 1906- 1914.

Cumberland: 5 mi SW of Charlottetown in Lot 65. Possibly named for Bentinck Harry Cumberland, proprietor of that part of Lot 65 who lived at Rocky Point from c1833- c1840. School district c1864. PO 1906- 1913. ~

Cumberland Cove: Adjacent to Northumber- land Strait, SW of Tryon, Lot 28. Named by Samuel Holland 1765, probably for Richard Cumberland (1732~1811), the dramatist, who was well known to Holland from his position at the Board of Trade as private secretary to Lord Halifax and Crown agent for NS. Holland also named Cumberland Point on the east side of the cove but, being unknown, it has been rescinded.

Curries Creek: See Ross Creek.

Curry Point: Sec Munns Point.

Currys Cove: Adjacent to Hillsborough River, Lot 48. Cummins 1925 shows Wm. Curry at its head. Meacham 1880 Walkers Cove, which is the approved name at the mouth of Johnstons River.

Cymbria: 5 mi SE of North Rustico in Lot 24. Named for the lodge of William Hodges, who came from Wales in 1822 to manage the Winsloe estate. It is a poetic name for Wales. PO 1895—1914. NTS maps prior to 1967 placed it incorrectly in South Rustico at St. Augustines Church.
