Forkey Creek: In Meacham 1880 and Don- glas 1925 for unnamed creek flowing S into North River between Lot 32 and Charlotte- town Royalty.

Fort Amherst National Historic Park: In Lot 65 at Rocky Point. Site of Port La Joie, French settlement 1720, captured by Bri- tish 175 8. Fort constructed then and named for Sir Jeffery Amherst (1717—1797).

Fort Augustus: 5 mi SW of Mount Stewart in Lot 36. Named by Father John Macdonald, probably for Fort Augustus, Inverness, Scotland. Formerly called Five Houses. PO 01853-1966.

Fortune Bridge: 6 mi W of Souris in Lot 43. PO 1889-1914.

Fortune Cove: On S side of Mill River, Lot 5. Probably derived from French anse a la Fortune. On Hill 1821.

Fortune Head: In Douglas 1925 as a railway station in Lot 46 and a school district in Lot 56. The railway station name was Fountain Head.

Fortune River: Flows E into Rollo Bay and Northumberland Strait, Lot 43. From French riviére a la Fortune, possibly mean- ing “river of riches”. Douglas 1925 notes

that Sicur Laborde bought the ship La Fortune from the English in 1754, but he also notes that de la Roque shows Riviere a la Fortune in 1752. Bay Fortune is the name of the bay at the mouth and the name of a community.

48 Road: 5 mi NW of Cardigan in Lot 51. Situated on 48 Road, which leads from Cardigan to Lot 48. First used as a station name; now applies to a rural community.

Founds Mills: 7 mi E of Kensington in Lot 21. Meacham 1880 notes Richard Found there on Founds River, but mistakenly calls the place Fountain Mills. Noted in JHA 1861.PO 1895-1913.

Founds River: Flows E into Stanley River, Lot 21 . Probably named for Richard Found who had mills there in 18005. Formerly called Old Mill River.

Fountain Head: Former station NE of Souris in Lot 46.

Fox Island: At the mouth of Mill River, Lot 5. Named by Samuel Holland 1765 Fox Head, probably for Henry Fox (1705- 1774) lst Lord Holland or his brother, Stephen Fox~Strangways (1704—1776) lst Earl of Ilchester.

Foxley River: Flows NW into Cascumpec Bay. Lot 11. Named by Samuel Holland 1765 for Henry Fox (1705—1774) lst Baron Holland of Foxley.

Fox River: Flows NE into Murray Harbour, Lot 64. On Holland 1765. In Micmac Wokweswaseboo, “fox river”.
