Gladstone: 3 mi E of Murray River in Lot 64. Named for William Ewart Gladstone (1809-1898) Prime Minister of England. PO 1907-1915. School district Wilmol 1864.

Clash/rein: Former name of area in Belfast 1 mi NW of Pinette, Lot 58. For Glasbhein on Isle of Skye, Scotland, which means “grey mount”. Variously spelled Glassvinn and Glashvin.

Glenaladale: Former school district in S part of Blooming Point and in Tracadie Cross, Lot 36. Given by Capt. John Macdonald, 1772 to one of the seven divisions of his PEI estates after Glenaladale, Inverness, Scotland. Why the name was not adopted locally is a mystery.

Glencoe: 9 mi NW of Montague in Lot 50 and 1 mi N of position on NTS 11 L/2 1967.

Named for Glen Coe, Argyllshire, Scotland. Glencoe: See Cable Head West. Glencoe: See St. Teresa.

Glencorradale: 7 mi NE of Souris in Lot 46. About 1840 a resident called Mr. Haney of nearby Souris Line Road was supported by neighbours against oppression by his land— lord. The government sent soldiers to quell the disturbances. Meanwhile the rebels hid out east of the road in the area of present Glencorradale. The event recalled the time that Prince Charles hid out at Glen Caradal on Isle of Skye after his defeat at Culloden, so the name Glencorradale was chosen for the new settlement c1846 by settlers from Inverness, Scotland. In JHA 1856. Meacham 1880 has West Baltic for the school. PO c1884—1914.

Glenfanning: 3 mi NE of Cardigan in Lot 53. Possibly named for Lady Fanning, daugh- ter of Edmund Fanning (1739—1 818) Lieu— tenant Governor of PEI 1786-1804. She owned large blocks of land in PEI. School district 1865. PO 1876—1914.

Glenfinnan River: Flows N into Hillsborough River, Lot 35. Bayfield 1846 Glen Fimion Creek. Also known as Slierrys Creek, Mcaeham 1880 showing Pat. Sherry with 180 acres there, which Cummins 1925 shows divided between Patrick and Thomas Sherry. Blanchard 1964 suggests this was riviere du Mon/in c) Sc'ie during the French period.
