Cummins 1925 Grand or Ellis River. Paci— fique 1934 places Cartier’s Fleuve des Barques here, but this is more likely Ship Channel, the entrance to Malpeque Bay.

Grand Tracadie: 12 mi NE of Charlottetown in Lot 35. Possibly a French settlement originally. Noted in JHA 1854. PO 01871- 1913.
Grandview: 7 mi SW of Montague in Lot 57.
Given 1884 because of good View from surrounding hills. PO 1884-1915.
Grangemount: PO 1910-1911 in Sherbrooke, Lot 19.
Grants Creek: Flows E into Paughs Creek, Lot 12. Meacham 1880 Schooner Creek, with Hugh Grant on the S side of it. Plan 1796 and Douglas 1925 Schooner Creek. Cummins 1925 shows Russell Grant there.
Granville: 8 mi NW of Hunter River in Lot 21. Derived from Grenville Bay, the earlier name of New London Bay, and from Gren- ville Parish. Grenville Mills oceurs in JHA 1836. Possibly the change of spelling took place when Earl Granville came to pro— minence as Secretary of State for the C010-
nies. PO c1870—1916. Granville Creek is adjacent to the community.

Grave Point: Former name for a point 1/2 mi SE of Wightmans Point, Lot 59. Named for an early cemetery there. Bayfield 1850 Grave Pt. and Grave l. Meacham 1880

Graystone Creek: Flows E into Boughton River, Lots 54 and 55. Given for gray rocks near the mouth.

Greek River: Flows E into Murray Harbour, Lot 63. On Holland 1765. Possibly it is a familiarization of the Micmae Kuhlowedek or Giotégoeteg “reverberating echo” or “surrounding”.
Green Bay: 7 mi E of Crapaud in Lot 30. Chosen for school c1886 and possibly named because it was located at a wide, forested bend of West River.
Greenfield: 5 mi NW of Montague in Lots 51 and 66. Selected 1904 for the P0. P0 1904-1913. James Ennis wrote in 1905: “Deep waving fields and meadows green, with gentle slopes and groves between”. On Dept. of Interior 1910, but omitted on 11 L/2 1946. Formerly called Sparrows Road.
Meacham 1880 identifies the school district as Shamrock.
Green Gables: PO from 1953 at Cavendish. Named for the house in PEI National Park made famous by Lucy Maud Montgomery in her many books, the first of which was “Anne of Green Gables”.
Green/till: Former school school name at West Cape, Lots 7 and 8.
Green Hill: On Wright and Cundall 1903 in Lot 54 between Primrose and St. Georges.
Green Mars/1: School district 1859 in Belle- vue, Lot 58.
Green Meadows: 4 mi SW of Morell in Lot 39. Given e1960 by Father Simpson and the sisters who taught at the school when the Morell Rear and Sinnott Road schools
were amalgamated. PO Morell Rear c1871- 1916; PO Sinnott’s Road 1898—1912.
Greenmount: 3 mi S of Tignish in Lot 2. School 1878 Green Mount. PO e1895- 1914. Formerly called Laricotier Road.
