Haldimand River: Flows N into Egmont Bay, Lot 15. Named by Samuel Holland 1765 for Sir Frederick Haldimand (1719—1 791) Governor General of Canada 1778—1786, who served with Holland in the Royal American Regiment, or for his nephew who assisted Holland as a surveyor and was drowned at Louisbourg in 1765. Possibly the same feature as Dutchman’s Creek noted in JHA 1845.

Haleys Point: Extends into Pownal Bay, Lot 49. Meacham 1880 notes Jno. Haley with property there, and Cummins 1925 shows I. B. Haley on the same property.

Haliburton: 5 mi W of O’Leary in Lot 7. Named by Robert Bruce Stewart, owner of Lot 7, for Robert Grant Haliburton (son of the famous writer) who was Stewart’s arbi- trator under the Land Purchase Act 1875. Noted in JHA 1879. PO 1904-1913.

Halifax Bay: See Bedeque Bay.

Halifax Paris/z: Named by Samuel Holland 1765 for Lots 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 for George Montagu Dunk (1716-1771) 2nd Earl of Halifax, President of the Board of Trade and Plantations (1748-1761). Rarely used and no longer referred to.

Halls Island: In Meacham 1880 for present E end of Rustico Island.

Hall, Cape: In Meacham 1880 for what is now approved as Orby Head, Lot 24.

Hallidays Wharf: Former wharf in Belfast,

Hamilton: 5 mi NW of Kensington in Lot 18. Selected at a public meeting 1869 for a

Hampton: 3 mi SE of Crapaud in Lot 29. Named by Mrs. James MacPhail c1865

who came from NB, probably Hampton in Kings County. PO 1875-1968.

Hansens Pond: On Yeos Creek, Lot 13. Cum— mins 1925 identifies Fred. Hanson nearby, and a current resident is Edwin Hansen.

Harding Creek: Flows NE into Southwest River, Lot 20. Two Harding families settled at its mouth. Meacham 1880 Hardings Creek, with J as. Harding resident there.

Hardy Point: Extends into Cascumpec Bay, Lot 11. Possibly named for George Hardy, squatter in Lot 13 01765 to 01790 when he moved to Lot 6. Not in Meacham 1880. In Cummins 1925 but no one by that name listed near it. Cundall 1851 Hardys Point; Bayfield 1851 and Douglas 1925 Poudre Point.

Hardys Creek: See Brooks River.

Hardys Pond: On Winter River, Lot 33. Cummins 1925 shows B. C. and M. R. Hardy with properties beside it. There was a grist mill at it in 1880. Also known as Barwise Pond.

Hardys Channel: Inlet between Conway Sand Hills and Malpeque Sand Hills. On Cundall 1851. Cummins 1925 shows Everett and Ernest Hardy in Lot 1 1 . Named by Holland 1765 Conway Inlet for Henry Seymour Conway (1721—1795) Secretary of State 1765—1766. In Micmac Chochekchidoo— clieec/i, meaning unknown (Douglas 1925), or Tjétjeg or Tipotji'tj, “at George’s” (Paci- fique 1934). Possibly the reference is to George Hardy, noted above under Hardy Point.
