Kildare, Cape: Extends into Gulf of St. Law- rence in Lot 3. Named by Samuel Holland 1765 for James, 20th Earl of Kildare (1722-1773), a son—in-law of Charles Len- nox, Duke of Richmond. Cartier 1534 Cap d’Orleans. Kildare Capes is a name of a series of capes in the same area.
Kildare River: Flows S into Alberton Har- bour, Lot 4. Named by Samuel Holland 1765 Kildare Creek, which Bayfield 1845 transferred to a small creek at Foleys Pond, 2 mi NE. Hill 1821 Lake Tranquil for the basin of Kildare River, and Rivington Pas— sage and Kildare Creek at the mouth. In Micmac Gepesagtjeg, “obstructed” (Paci- fique I934). Kildare Point is at the mouth of the river, where Holland applied the name Kildare Island.
