Kintyre: Former name for a settlement in Lot 33 in the area of Winsloe North. Noted in JHA 1839 and in PEI Directory 1880- 1881. Lovell’s Directory 1871 has Cantyre. PEI Road Classification Atlas shows Kentyre Road between Winsloe North and Harrington.
Kirbys Point: Extends into Murray River, Lot 64. Cummins 1925 shows Ernest Kirby there. Bayfield 1849 Dowden Pt.

Lady Fane: 21/2 mi N of Crapaud in Lots 28 and 29. Named for Cecily Jane Georgina, daughter of John Fane, 10th Earl of West- morland. She was a proprietor of a large part of Lot 29, and devoted all rents to the improvement of the lot. Lady Fane school was opened c1869.

Lake Verde: 12 mi E of Charlottetown in Lots 48 and 49. Named by James Smith c1855 for the school after the nearby lake, which may not itself have been named, but its then green colour may have suggested the French form; later the school name was probably transferred back to the lake. Early records, Meacham l 880 and Douglas 1925 Lake Verd. PO Lake Verd l886—19l9. Formerly called Monag/zan Road.
Lakeville: 10 mi NE of Souris in Lot 47. Given c1873 for school adjacent to North Lake. PO 1885-1913.
Landrys Point: Extends into Montague River, Lot 59. Named for a sailor who lived there. Meacham 1880 Phillips PL, with Capt. George Phillips living there. Bayfield 1850 and NTS 11 L/2 1967 French Point.

45. Named for John Knight (1812—1875), who developed the harbour at Souris.
Knutsford: 3 mi W of O’Leary in Lots 7 and 8. School district 1869. Possibly named for Knutsford, southwest of Manchester, Eng-
land. PO O’Leary Road 1871-1913.
Langley Beach: In Lot 48 opposite Charlotte- town. It is said that Colonel Langley had a grant there in 17803. Noted by McAlpine’s Gazetteer 1919.
Lansdowne Hotel: PO 1888-1905 at Cape Traverse. Douglas 1925 incorrectly listed it as a settlement.

Lauders Grove: On Map 1775 in Lot 14 in the area of present MacDougall.
Launching Bay: N of Cardigan Bay between Boughton Island and the mainland. For— merly a sandbar joined Boughton Island to the mainland and fishermen launched their boats from the bar. Launching Pond is a nearby feature.
Launching Place: 6 mi NE of Georgetown in Lot55. PO 1855—cl 860, and 1875-1946.
Launching Point: Extends into Northumber— land Strait, Lot 55. Named Bruce Point by Samuel Holland 1765 for Charles Bruce, 4th Earl of Elgin and 3rd Earl of Ailesbury. Plan 1745 C. Vere.
Lauretta: 5 mi NW of Alberton in Lot 3. PO 1897-1913. Possibly named for a teacher,
such as Lauretta Nelligan, who was teach- ing at DeBlois Road in 1898.
