Leards Mill: 6 mi NW of Cardigan in Lot 52. Meacham 1880 identifies Pcake Bros., owners of Acadia Mills. Cummins 1925 shows George Leard there, and a later owner was Birt Leard. Leards Pond is in the community of Leards Mill.

Leards Point: See Tryon Head.

Leards Pond: At Searletown, Lot 26. J. Prince Leard bought the Wright property in 1873 and operated a mill.

Leards Pond: On West Branch Westmoreland River, Lot 29. Meacham 1880 shows Geo. Leard with saw and grist mills, and Cum- mins 1925 indicates W. S. Leard with 41/2 acres there.

Leards Pond: On Pisquid River, Lot 37. Cummins 1925 shows Sam. J. Leard there. Meacham 1880 notes a grist mill at the pond.

Leech Pond: 2 mi SW of Murray Harbour in Lot 64, Douglas 1925: “The reference is

Lennox Channel: Between Lennox Island and the mainland of Lots 12 and 13. Named by Samuel Holland 1765 Lenox Channel, for Charles, 3rd Duke of Rich— mond and Lennox. In Micmac Klkc/iise- boogwek, “passage close in shore”, or “small passage”.

Lennox Island: In Malpeque Bay. Named by Samuel Holland 1765 Lenox Island for Charles, 3rd Duke of Richmond and Len- nox or for his brother Lord George Lennox. Became an Indian reserve in 1840,

although Micmacs had long resided on it. PO from 1912.

Lenox Grove: On Map 1775 in the area of present Urbainville, Lot 14. Named by Thomas DesBrisay.

Leoville: 4 mi SW of Tignish in Lot 1. Named for Pope Leo XIII (1810-1903). PO 1896- 1914.

Lewes: 7 mi NW of Murray River in Lot 60. Probably named for Lews Castle, Lewis, Outer Hebrides, Scotland. PO 1908—1918. School district Middleton c1863, which may have been given for a person. Also known as Turk, because the wife of a first settler saw a resemblance to a place with a similar name (Tulloch? Bridge of Turk?) in Scotland, but local people consider the name somewhat derogatory.

Lewis Point: Extends into North River, Char- lottetown Royalty. Probably named for George Lewis. Meacham 1880 May Point, with adjacent property labelled “Geo. Lewis Heirs”. Bayfield 1845 and Douglas 1925 May Point.

Lewis Pond: 1 mi N of St. Peters in Lot 41. Cummins 1925 shows Dan. Lewis with property at the pond. Meacham 1880 in- dicates saw and grist mills at the pond. NTS 11 L/7 1967 has this name on St. Peters River in error.

Lewis Town: See Alberton South.

Lienster Town: On Map 1775 in the area of present Richmond, Lot 14. Named by Thomas DesBrisay probably for the broth- er-in-law of the Earl of Hillsborough, lst Duke of Leinster.
