Margate: 3 mi NE of Kensington in Lot 19. Named by a man called Smith from Mar— gate, England c1790. PO 1869-1948.

Marian Point: On Hill 1821 for a point on NE side of Fortune Cove extending into Mill River, Lot 5.

Marie: 3 mi E of Morell in Lot 40. PO Marie Bridge 1867-1914.

Marie River: Flows N into St. Peters Bay, Lot 40. Possibly named for a French settler. Tradition has for Marie Grandcourt who is said to have been burned at Rocky Point in the French period for witchcraft. De la Roque 1752 notes Marie Joseph Chenel, widow of Morel, as a prominent landowner in the area. JHA 1827 Moree River; JHA 1832 Marie River; JHA 1833 Moirie River. Possibly called Halton River in 1 823.

Marion: PO 1909-1912 in Lot 49. Named for Marion Whear, daughter of John F. Whear, postal inspector, Charlottetown.

Marshalls Pond: On Auld Creek, Lot 34. The Census of 1798 lists Sandy Marshall in Lot 34. Meacham 1880 shows Robt. Marshall with a shingle mill, and Cummins 1925 indicates Dave Marshall there.

Marshfield: 5 mi NE of Charlottetown in Lot

Marshfield, England before coming to PEI in 1842. He was Premier of PEI 1869— 1870 and 1872-1873.
