McAskill River: Flows N into Gulf of St. Lawrence, Lot 42. On Lake 1863 and in Meacham 1880. JHA 1831 McCaskil’s River; NTS ll L/7 1967 Goose River, given because it was assumed the local community of Goose River must be named for this, the longest stream in the area. Changed 1970 to reflect local usage.

McAuley Creek: Flows N into Tracadie Bay, Lot 35. Meacham 1880 names Angus, Randall and Mrs. Donald McAuley at its mouth. Capt. John Macdonald named it Finicane River.

McCallum Creek: Flows N into Brackley Bay, Lot 33. Duncan McCallum, an im- migrant from Scotland settled there 1771. Meacham 1880 McCallums Cr., with Neil, Jno, and Jas. G. McCallum nearby, and a

sawmill on John’s property. Holland 1765 R. all Vergne.

MCCannell Wharf: PO 1913—1921 in Lot 35 on N side of Hillsborough River.

McDonald Creek: On Bayfield 1846 for the cove adjacent to Hillsborough River, Lot 48, 1 mi W of Johnstons River.

McDonald Point: Extends into Dunk River, Lot 25. Named for Alexander McDonald, whose father, Capt. Allan McDonald pur- chased 10,000 acres in Lot 25 in 1774 from Sir Alexander Campbell, intending to leave Scotland and settle here, but was drowned while crossing from the Isle of Skye to the mainland. After Alexander came to PEI he sold and gave away most of the land. In

1798 Angus and Ronald McDonald were heads of families in the lot. Meacham 1880 shows D. H. McDonald there, and Cum- mins 1925 has James E. McDonald there.
