Mermaid Cove: Adjacent to Hillsborough River at Mermaid. Named by Samuel Hol— land 1765 Dean Cove for Capt. Joseph Deane who visited PEI in 1764 and 1765 in HMS MERMAID. Bayfield 1846 and Mea- cham 1880 Dean Cove. Plan 1830 and Blanchard 1964 anse aux Morts.

Midgell River: Flows N into St. Peters Bay, Lots 40 and 41. Possibly named for an Indian Chief such as Micael Michell who is noted in JHA 1832, seeking redress of problems. It is believed locally to be of Indian origin, although Douglas 1925 sug—

gests it may be a corruption of French Michel. Noted in JHA 1827.
