Nicolle Cove: Adjacent to Murray Harbour, Lot 64. Cummins 1925 Nicolle’s Cove, with John Nicolle living there. Bayfield 1849 Philip Cove; Wright and Cundall 1874 Fox Cove; Meacham 1880 Philips Cove. Nicolle Point is adjacent to the cove.

Nine Mile Creek: 9 mi SW of Charlottetown in Lot 65. JHA 1832 notes Nine Mile House there. PO 1867—1948.

No Man’s Land: School district c1870—c1892 at Maple Plains, Lot 27. The name recalls a section outside London’s walls where men were executed.

Noonans Marsh: At Borden, Lot 27. Cum- mins 1925 shows William and Frank Noonan there.

Norboro: 3 mi SE of Kensington in Lots 19 and 25. Named by P0 Department Nor- borough to replace Brooklyn, the name the people asked for in 1872. At the same time the railway station at present Kelvin was called Brooklyn. PO Norborough 1872- 1913. Formerly called Bowness for Robert (1794-1872) and William Bowness (1796- 1874) who came from Dumfries, Scotland, 1835. Meacham 1880 shows Norborough for the PO, Brooklyn for the school and Kelvin Grove for the station. The school later became Norboro, and this form has survived.

Northam: 3 mi SW of Tyne Valley in Lot 13. Named by William Gorrell and John Lock for Northam, Devonshire, England, a place 2 mi N of Bideford. On Lake 1863. PO 1875-1969.

North Bedeque: 4 mi SE of Summerside in Lot 25. PO 1860-1913.

North Cape: The N extremity of PEI. On Holland 1765. The form North Point oc- curred on later references and still appears on NTS 21 P/1 1966, but North Cape is now approved, and is local usage for it. Named by Cartier 1534 Cap dez Sauvaiges, where he saw a man who fled when the French approached the shore; Bellin 1744 Pointe du Nord. In Micmac Setunook, “where the water flows back” (Rand 1888), or Sipiaosgigeneg, “stretched rocks” (Paci— fique 1934).

North Carleton: 2 mi N of Borden in Lot 27; also 2 mi NW of Carleton. Formerly called

Seven Mile Bay, a name still used at a church there. PO 1884-1913.
