Spring Garden Creek: On Bayfield 1845-44 for a creek between Parkdale and Sher— wood, Charlottetown Royalty. In Meacham 1880. Franquet 1751 probably arise aux Marts.
Springfield: 6 mi SE of Kensington in Lot 67. Named by Thomas and Benjamin Haslam c1828 because many springs were in an Open clearing near their house. PO 1861- 1914, although a letter was sent from there in 1833 using the name.
Springfield: Former school district at Com- mercial Cross, Lot 59.
Springfield West: 6 mi W of O'Leary in Lots 7 and 8. Lake 1863 and Meacham 1880 Springfield, the school district name. PO Maddock 1876—1914, James Maddocks postmaster. Meacham 1880 lists Maddock P.0. at the farm of Jas. Mattix.
Springhill: 4 mi W of Tyne Valley in Lot 13. School district Spring Hill after 1880.
Spring Park: School district from 1870 in Charlottetown Royalty. The area was an- nexed to Charlottetown 1958. Meacham 1880 shows Spring Park, the residence of Thomas DesBrisay, on Spring Park Road and within the limits of Charlottetown. The name Spring Park was given to the property by Robert Gray in 1787.

Springvale: 8 mi NW of Charlottetown in Lot 32. School district Cl 862. Lake 1863 Elson.
Spring Valley: 5 mi N of Kensington in Lot 18. School district c1890. PO 1897-1913. JHA 1838 and Meacham 1880 Fermoy.
Spry, Cape: Extends into Northumberland Strait, Lot 56. Named by Samuel Holland 1765 Point Spry possibly for either Sir Richard Spry (1715—1775) who command- ed the ORFORD at the capture of Louisbourg or for William Spry who worked with Gen- eral Rollo in the preparation of fortification plans of PEI. Both received grants in PEI.
Spry Cove: Adjacent to Northumberland Strait, Lot 56. Named by Samuel Holland 1765 for Sir Richard Spry or William Spry. Meacham 1880 places it inside the bar, which is locally Little Pond. Cummins 1925 McDonald’s Cove with several McDonald families on its N side.
Squaw Bay: See Alexandra Bay.
Squaw Point: Extends into Hillsborough Bay, Lot 49. Derived from an anglicized form of the Micmac word for woman. but the origin of the name is unknown. In Micmac Ogiisig, “landing” similar to the Micmac for Governors Island (Pacifique 1934).
Squirrel Creek: In Meacham 1880 for a small creek in Lot 12 opposite Lennox Island;
noted by Bain 1890. Also Squirrel Creek Point; both names are unknown locally.
Stanchel: 6 mi SW of Hunter River in Lot 67. Named by Mrs. Allan Nicholson for a new school 1893 after Stenscholl, Isle of Skye, Scotland. PO 1896-1914.
Stanfield Mills: See North Tryon.
Stanhope: 12 mi N of Charlottetown in Lot 34. School district before 1880. PO 1882- 1968. Also PO Stan/lope by the Sea from 1961. Stanhope Bayshore is a summer camping area beside PEI National Park. Stanhope Beach extends from Cape Stan- hope to Long Pond.
