Stuart Point: Extends into Northumberland Strait, Lot 62. Alexander M. Stuart was the first settler there. Meacham 1880 lists Malcolm, Dond. and Allan Stewart there, and NTS ll E/15 1968 has Stewart Point, but the family name there has always been Stuart.

Sturgeon: 7 mi SE of Montague in Lot 61. PO 185 7-1914.

Sturgeon Bay: Adjacent to Cardigan Bay, Lots 59 and 61. On Holland 1765. Plan 1745 has R. aux Esturgeons in the area of the present bay. Sturgeon River flows E into Sturgeon Bay.

Sturgeon Road: See Milltown Cross.

Styx, River: Noted in JHA 1831 for small brook in Lot 17 between Muddy Creek and Union Corner.

Suffolk: 7 mi NE of Charlottetown in Lot 34. PO Suffolk Station 1884-1928. Named for Suffolk, England where the first settlers

came from C] 824—1 840. School first known as Suffolk Road.

Suffolk Pond: See Officers Pond.

Suffolk Road: PO 1870-1885 at Pleasant Grove, Lot 34. Former school district at Suffolk.

Summerfield: 5 mi SE of Kensington in Lot 67. Named by Peter Sinclair c1840 for the family farm in Argyllshire, Scotland.

Summerside: Town incorporated 1877. Seat of Prince County from 1876. PO from 01852. Named for Suminerside House established by Joseph Green 1840, itself suggested by Major Harry Compton who described the site as the sunny side of the island. Lake 1863 notes “Town Com- menced in 1852”. Formerly known as Greens Shore Bedeque.

Summerville: 6 mi NW of Montague in Lots 51 and 66. Named by Peter J. D. Edmonds 1867 and approved at a public meeting. Formerly called Town Road. PO 1867- 1967.
