FOREWORD.
In placing before its citizens this narrative of the Past and Present of Prince Edward Island, the publishers can confidently claim that they have carried out in full every promise made~in the prospectus. ,They point with‘pride to the elegantbindi'ng of the volume, the beauty of its typography, the excellence of' the paper on which it is printed, and'the truthfulness depicted by its portraits and the high class of art in which they are executed. The historical chapters from the pens of distinguished men of therIsland who have been important workers in the events they record, comprise a valuable collection, and will be of great interest to the present gen- eration, and of inestimable worth to future historians, they being the result of exhaustive research, full and accurate knowledge and patient toil. Each biographical sketch in the book has been sub- mitted to the person interested for correction and approval, and therefore errors of fact, if there be any, are due solely to the per- son for whom the sketch was prepared.
The publishers here avail themselves of the opportunity to thank the citizens of Prince Edward Island, and especially its lead- ing public men, for the uniform kindness with which they have re— garded this undertaking, and for their valuable services in helping to carry it to successful completion.
Confident that our efforts to please will fully meet the appro- bation of the public, we are,
Respectfully, B. F. BOWEN & CO., Publishers.
