PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND. 149 Edwell, an English lady, whose death oc¬ curred in about 1842, and who left two daughters, Jane Edwell and Frances Eliza ¬ beth. They both went to some years after and there Jane married the Counte de Robiana, and is now deceased. Frances married Mr. Henry Sidney , of Cowper Hall, Northumberland, England , and is now a widow with two sons, the eldest of whom has succeeded to his father's estate. Mrs. Sidney is now living- in the Dower House. Doctor Hobkirk came out to Prince Ed ¬ ward Island in 1837 or 1838 and practiced his profession until the time of his death, in 1888. He was a Liberal in politics, was civil surgeon to Her Majesty's forces in Prince Edward Island and quarantine and health officer for many years. He married again, on the _>ist of June, 1848, Louisa M. Hensley , a daughter of Commander Charles Hensley , R. N ., who emigrated to Prince Edward Island in 1841. She was born at Haniford, near London, England . There were nine children by this marriage, but only four are now living, two sons and two daughters, namely: William Charles Hob ¬ kirk, who has an appointment in the marine and fishery department; Harry Russel Hob ¬ kirk, who is in the Canadian army; Emily Hobkirk , who is living with her mother, and Louisa Margarette , who married Dr. James Warburton , formerly mayor of the city of , and who is now a member of the Provincial Parliament for Charlotte - town. All of the children were baptized into the church of England , as were their parents before them. Dr. Alfred Holloway came to this Is¬ land about the 30th of July, 1841, and set¬ tled at Millvale , on the farm now held by Mr. Peter Murphy . The mill property at that place, known now as McMillan's mills, which was held by Robert Henry , Church Tims and Cornelius Birch Bagster, was leased April 1, 1843, and assigned in 1846.. Doctor Holloway went to upper Canada and probably returned to England with the Bagsters. Doctor Mackenzie was lost in the ill- fated "Fairy Queen" on the 7th of October, 1853, in the straits of Northumberland. The Captain and some of the crew got into a boat and drifted away, regardless of the fate of the female passengers. Doctor Mac ¬ kenzie, an excellent young man, two other males and four females perished.' Messrs. Wilkins , Lydiard and Pineo landed on the north side of , after eight hours of exposure to the storm and cold. Dr. James Macleod was born at Uigg ,. Prince Edward Island , on June 13, 1845, and died at Charlottetown on the 22d of De¬ cember, 1900. He was the third son of tke; Rev. Samuel Macleod , of Uig, and received his education in the common schools, sup¬ plementing this by attendance at Prince of; Wales College and the McGill Medical Col¬ lege at Montreal, where he graduated; re-' ceiving the degree of Doctor of Medicine.. Doctor Macleod practiced for some time at Summerside in conjunction with Dr. Rob ¬ ert Mackelvie , a graduate of Hos ¬ pital Medical College, of New York , who has predeceased Doctor Macleod . The lat¬ ter afterwards was associated with Dr, John T. Jenkins for some time and finally dis¬ solved his connection with Doctor Jenkins and opened an office in his own behalf in the city. He married Miss Margaret Alma Gates , the youngest daughter of John Henry Gates , of this city, on the 13th of June, 1882, leaving issue of two children,
