PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND. 193 REBEKAH BRANCH . Alpha Rebekah Lodge , No. 10, was in¬ stituted at October 24, 1896, by John S. Nelson , district deputy grand master, with the following charter mem¬ bers: John S. Nelson , Caroline Nelson , John A. Wares , Mary J. Wares , A. W. Mitchell , Annie Mitchell , John F. Whear , Florence J. Whear , T. B. Grady and Char¬ lotte E. Grady . On the 31st of December, 1905, the membership numbered eighty- eight. Rebebah Lodge, No. 13, was instituted at a meeting held in the I. O. O. F. Hall at Summerside on the 22d of November, 1897, by T. B . (ira.lv. past grand master, assisted by a degree team from Alpha Lodge, Charlottetown . The following are the charter members: W. K. McGougan , James A. Morrison , L. B. Hunt , H. T. Gough , D. M. Waugh , T. B. Grady . Isabella R. Massey , Alice E. Waugh , Georgie S. Morris , Annie M. Gough and Charlotte E. Grady . In his report to Grand Lodge, Mr. Grady said: "The sisters are all very enthusiastic in the work. As an evidence of this I may say that inside of three months after the lodge was formed they secured a full paraphernalia—a credit to any lodge—and a degree team which I think cannot be beaten in the jurisdiction for the fine work they do in conferring the degrees." The qualification for member¬ ship in this degree includes all Odd Fellows in good standing, their wives, daughters, sisters and mothers, also the daughters, sis¬ ters and mothers of deceased Odd Fellows, who at the time of their death were mem¬ bers of the order, and all unmarried white women who have attained the age of eighteen years. "The Beautified Form" of representing this degree illustrates all those virtues 13 which adorn the female character, and sets forth those admirable qualities which com¬ bine to advance, improve and elevate man¬ kind. The characters portrayed are all il¬ lustrative of some trait or virtue which is commendable in woman. The emblems of the degree are first, the Bee Hive , which represents associated in¬ dustry and teaches constant and untiring diligence in works and labors of love, the good results of united effort and action, and the gratifying reward of industry and per¬ severance. Second, the Moon and Seven Stars, indicative of order. The exactness and unerring laws of nature teach us the necessity of system, order and regularity in all our duties. Third, the Dove, a lovely type of harmlessness, meekness, innocence, gentleness, and purity so befitting a pure- minded, noble woman; its example prompt¬ ing the members to go forth (like the dove) on missions of love and mercy, ever bearing the "olive branch" of peace. PATRIARCHS MILITANT DEGREE . This is the military display feature of the order and is of recent growth; the uni¬ forms are described as the finest and most attractive that ever have been adopted by any organization. There is no lodge or canton of the Patriarchs Militant in this province. Charlottetown and Summerside have, been favored with the meeting of the Grand Lodge,of the maritime provinces on differ¬ ent occasions and the members have always received a most cordial welcome from the citizens. These meetings have invariably drawn together a very large representation of delegates from the sister provinces and it is an acknowledged fact that .visitors have re¬ turned to their homes delighted with their sojourn in our midst.
