The Charlottetown Y. M. C. A. was or- ganized New Year’s Day, 1856. Several clergymen and laymen met in St. Paul’s church school room and thus formed the sec- ond oldest association in Canada. Rev. \Villiam Snodgrass, minister of the Kirk, now known as St. James church, delivered the inaguration address on the evening of February 6th, 1856, Lieutenant Hancock, R. N., one of the vice-presidents, being in the chair.

In the year 1873 or thereabouts the as- sociation decided to erect a building, which is in use today for the Y. M. C.
