STRANG S. HART, who during his life- time occupied a prominent position as an enterprising merchant and successful farmer at Coleman, Prince county, was born in Wilmot, Lot 19, Prince Edward Island, and was a son of James and Elizabeth (Waugh) Hart. James Hart was a native of England and upon his emigration to Prince Edward Island located on a farm and in connection with its operation also engaged in teaching school. He received a good education and was reared to the life of a farmer, to which calling he devoted his energies during his lifetime, acquiring an excellent reputation as a practical and methodical man. ‘He engaged in a general merchandise business at Coleman and in buying, selling and exporting produce. He was a man of good business ability and sound judgment and occupied a prominent place in the community up to the time of his death, which occurred ' in I899, at the age of sixty-eight years. He had been in business at Coleman for thirty years and in other ways was prominent in local and public affairs, having served as tax collector in Lots 9 and IO for three years and also for many years as magistrate and commissioner for deeds of Prince county. In politics he gave an ardent sup- port to the Liberal party and took an active part in all business, political and social affairs of the community. His ability and judgment were widely recognized and he was frequently consulted by persons from all over the surrounding country, his advice being always found to be sound and reliable. His wide information is accounted for from the fact,that in his youth he was educated for the Episcopal ministry and was subse— quently master of the grammar schools at Amherst, being an advanced scholar in Latin, Hebrew, Greek and French, and a thorough master of English.

Mr. Hart married Miss Mary Jane Wood, of Lot 8, a daughter of Richard and Elizabeth (Cannon) Wood, the father hav- ing been born at Bideford, Devonshire, England. To the subject and his wife were born the following children, namely: Ade- linda, the wife of Charles Lidestone, of Lyne Valley, Prince Edward Island; Alveretta May, of Coleman, who with her mother has successfully carried on the business since the father’s death. Mrs. Hart is a woman of pleasing personality and amiable disposi- tion and is enjoying the confidence and respect of the large circle of friends with whom she mingles. Both she and her daugh- ter are energetic in business and popular in social circles.
R. D. MCLAUCHLAN,M.D.,a representa- tive member of his profession and who has enjoyed an extensive practice at St. Peters Bay since his location here in 1891, was born in Lot 38, Kings county, and is a son of Alex and Isabella (McLauchlan) McLauch- lan, the latter deceased. The father was born on the same place and still resides there. The paternal grandfather, Duncan McLauchlan, a native of Perthshire, Scotland, came to Prince Edward Island in about 1812, dying here in 1861, at the age of seventy-five years. The maternal grandparents were Donald and Elizabeth (Ferguson) McLauchlan, na- tives of Scotland, who settled at Marshfield, Queens county, Prince Edward Island. Grandfather Duncan McLauchlan married Miss Jane Henderson, a native of Scotland.
