cided to adopt the practice of medicine as his life vocation, he entered Trinity Medical College, Toronto, and from there the medical department of the University of New York, where he graduated in 1891. Immediatelv upon the completion of his technical training he came to St. Peters Bay and entered upon active practice, in which he has since been engaged with most satisfactory results. He has been eminently successful in the han- dling of such cases as have been confided to his care and is now enjoying a large and constantly increasing practice. The Doctor is a coroner for Kings county and is also a surgeon for the Prince Edward Island Railway. He is a Liberal in politics and a Presbyterian in religious belief.

The Doctor married Miss Bessie Mac- Donald, a daughter of the late Samuel MacDonald, of Dundas, and to this union has been born one child, Beth. The Doctor has only one brother\ living, Cameron, at present a member of the police force at Winnipeg.

CHARLES MCEACHEN,a successful farm- er in Lot 46, Kings county, and ex-member of the provincial parliament, is a native of this county, having been born in 1816 on the farm where he now resides. The paternal great-grandfather was Hugh McEachen. The grandfather, Angus McEachen, came to Prince Edward Island in 1791 and first set— tled at Tracadie, later removing to West RiVer, now Branshaw. He was a second cousin to Marshall_ MacDonald, Duke of Terentum, of France, whose father, Neil MacDonald, left Scotland with Prince Charles. McIsaac. The subject’s mother bore the maiden name of Mary McDonald, a daugh- ter of Hugh McDonald, and sister of Capt. Angus McDonald, of the Royal Scotts Regi- ment of Foot, his death having recently oc- - curred in the Barbados. Hugh McDonald married Mary McDonald and they never left their native home in Invemess, Scotland. To Neil and Margaret McEachen were born the following children: John and Angus were engaged in the lumber business in Brit- ish Columbia; Hugh, of Lot 46, this prov- ince; Charles, the subject of this sketch; Mary; Catherine, the wife of Alex Campbell; of Lot 47; Jeanette, the wife of Donald Mc- Kieg, of St. Peters Lake.

The subject of this sketch received a good district—school education and has followed farming all his life. He has been very suc- cessful in this calling and is considered one of the leading citizens of his community. In 185 3 he was appointed justice of the peace, being then the youngest man in Prince Ed- ward Island to hold this office and now the oldest. He was commissioner for the set- tlement of small debts for eight years and was a member of the board of road commis- sioners. He has been a staunch Conservative in politics, in 1889 being elected a member of the Provincial Legislature, in which he served one term, performing much effective service in the interests of his constituents. He is a member of the St. Columbo Roman Cath- olic church. Mr. McEachen married Miss Flora McAuley, a daughter of Donald and Nancy (MacDonald) McAuley, the former of whom was a native of Invernesshire, Scot- land. To Mr. and Mrs. McEachen have been born the following children: Catherine, now the widow of Daniel McDonald; John, living in the state of Washington; Donald living in Seattle, Washington; Jeanette;
