the past forty-three years he has served as one of His Majesty’s coroners for Prince county, and from 1875 to 1877 he served as sheriff of Prince county, performing the du- ties of these various positions in a creditable and pleasing manner. In 1857 he entered into partnership with Dugald S. MacNutt under the firm name of D. & P. MacNutt, and after entering into a general merchandise business at Malpeque, the business association contin- ued until the senior partner’s death in July, 1888, after which he continued the business alone, up to 1902, since when the firm style has been Peter MacNutt & Son. During this long course of years his darlings have been characterized by strict integrity and he has at all times enjoyed the absolute confi- dence and respect of all with whom he comes in contact. He has also given some atten- tion to farming, owning a splendid tract of land in this locality, and is considered one of the leading citizens of his community. Mr. xMacNutt was first returned to the Legis- lative Council at the bye-election in the sec- ond district of Prince county, and was re- elected at the general election in 1882, 1890 and 1897, the last time from the fourth dis- trict of Prince county, for the Legislative Assembly. He was re-elected at the next general election in 1900 for the third dis- trict of Prince county, and also at the general election of 1904. He has been a member of the government of the province continuously since 1897.
On January 30, 1861, Mr. MacNutt married Miss Anna Stewart MacNutt, a daughter of Thomas MacNutt, and to them have been born the following children: An- nabella Emma, who died in 1891; Mary M. Ella; Lucy Penelope; D. Preston MacNutt; and C. Ernest. Religiously Mr. MacNutt is a member of the Presbyterian church of

JOHN ANDERSON, an expert accountant and highly esteemed citizen at Kensington, Prince county, was born at Newtown,Belfast district, Prince Edward Island, in February, 1856, and is a son of Alexander and Mary (Gillies) Anderson, the father a native of Dunstafinage, Queens county, and the mother of Isle of Skye, Invemess, Scotland. The father, who followed milling and farming during his active life, died in November, 1873. His wife is still living. The pater- nal grandfather, Alexander Anderson, was a native of Perthshire, Scotland, came to Prince Edward Island in 1808 and here fol- lowed farming. His wife bore the maiden name of Isabella McDougal. The maternal grandparents, Alexander and Flora (Mc- Queen) Gillies, were natives of the Isle of Skye and came to Prince Edward Island in 1819, where the grandfather died on April 24, 1867, at the age of eighty—two years, his wife dying February 6, 1885, at the age of ninety-three years. The maternal great- grandmother bore the maiden name of Ann Nicholson and came to Prince Edward Is- land sometime subsequent to the emigration of her son. She died in February, 1845, at the age of eighty-four years.
