Gamble , a prominent farmer and respected citizen of Lot 17, Prince county, was born at Tryon , Prince Edward Island , on January 22, 1847, and is a son of James and Martha (Cowden) Gamble, the former born at , New Brunswick ., on Au¬ gust 12, 1797, dying on October 8, 1857, and the latter born in Scotland on August 3, 1803, dying on October 15, 1865. The pater¬ nal grandfather, James Gamble , who was a native of Ireland, came to , New Brunswick , about 1800, and sometime later removed x<< Prince Edward Island , locating at Tryon , where he made his home until his death, at the remarkable age of one hundred four years. Subject's father removed to Fifteen Point in 1850 and there successfully followed farming and lumber dealing, tak¬ ing also a deep interest in local affairs. He was the father of eleven children, of whom six are now living, the subject of this sketch being the youngest. The latter spent his early school days at Fifteen Point and upon the conclusion of his studies he took up the operation of the old homestead farm, which he continued until 1894, when he sold the farm and bought the Melville McKay property on the in Lot 17, comprising, one hundred acres and extending to the shore, the entire tract being under cultivation and devoted to general farming. In connection with the tilling of the soil Mr. Gamble also gives some attention to stock raising, particularly Ayreshire cattle. He has also dealt exten¬ sively in horses and in all his operations, which have been characterized by shrewd¬ ness and fair dealing, lie has been successful to a gratifying degree. He has taken an ac¬ tive interest in public affairs and served as secretary of the schools at Fifteen Point and also as justice of the peace for many years. On the 4th of May, 1881, Mr. Gamble mar¬ ried Miss Cassie Hibbett , of Fifteen Point , Prince Edward Island , a daughter of Wil ¬ liam and Margaret (Clark) Hibbett, where the former was engaged in farming. Mr. Hibbett was born at Tryon , Prince Edward Island , on January 16, 1826, and died No¬ vember 23,1896; his wife was born on Octo¬ ber 11, 1832, and died on July 8, 1875. Of their family of nine children Mrs. Gamble was the third in order of birth. To the sub¬ ject and his wife have been born the follow¬ ing children: Mabel Lula , who entered Prince of Wales College in 1900, graduating in 1901, with a first class diploma, the wife of Alfred Linkletter , of Lowell, Massa¬ chusetts ; and Lily, Carrie and Frank still at home. Referring to Mrs. Gamble 's father, it may be said that he went from Prince Ed ¬ ward Island to California in 1850, the trip being made overland and consuming six months, during which they had some trouble with the Indians. After spending some time in California , Mr. Hibbett went to Australia, where he remained awhile, finally returning to Prince Edward Island , after an absence of five years, by way of the route. He then settled in Fifteen Point where he was a successful farmer until the death of his wife; he then sold, and moved to the United States, where he lived with some of his family until his death. Fred Robins ( W. F. Robins ), the lead¬ ing liveryman of Charlottetown , is a native of Prince Edward Island , having been born at Charlottetown on the 1st of January, 1862, and is a son of John and Catherine (Wyatt) Robins, both also natives of Prince Edward Island .
