former was born on this Island in 1806, and died in 1886, while his wife was a native of Cromarty, Scotland, born at Nigg in 1814, and dying in 1878.

The paternal grandparents were Donald and Jessie McLaren (Hermitage) Gordon, the former, who was born at Fincastle parish of Duhl, Perthshire, Scotland, on the River Lummul, near Blair Athol, in 1762, and died in 1819, was the son of Charles and Margaret (Cameron) Gordon.

The former came from Invemess to Fin— castle with his father, who built a castle on the banks of the Tay, near Athol, and estab- lished a ferry there.

He belonged to the Gordons of Huntly, and was related to the family of the first Duke of Gordon. His wife was a native of Invemess.

The subject of this sketch, who was reared on the paternal homestead, received a good district school education and has devoted his energies to the cultivation of the old farm, to which he has added many acres. The place is finely located on the north bank of the Brudenell river and is highly improved in every respect. the fields being well cultivated and the fences well kept, and the residences and buildings in a good state of repair.

On this farm Mr. Gordon raises all the crops common to this latitude and is con- sidered one of the successful farmers of the community. He has served capably as a justice of the peace during the last thirty years, and is a consistent member of the Presbyterian church. In politics he is a Liberal.

On the 3rd of May, 1878, he was married to Mrs. Barbara (Holmes) Sellar, a daugh- ter of Thomas and Jeanette (Mustard) Holmes, both natives of Rosshire, Scotland.

They have had nine children, seven of whom are living, namely: John Heber, Florence and Jessie (deceased), Barbara. Ethel Mae, James Wesley, Eleanor Rose. Annie Cora and VValterina Matilda.

GEORGE A. PARKER, a well known citi- zen and successful farmer in Georgetown Royalty, was born in this locality on Decem- ber 16. I846, a son of George and Jessie (Southerland) Parker, the former a native of Kilkenney, Ireland, born May 27, 1810, ~ and the latter of Pictou, Nova Scotia, born in May, 1820. The father came to Prince Edward Island in 1827 and here engaged in agricultural pursuits up to the time of his death on the 3rd of January, 1894. His wife died in June, 1885.

The subject of this sketch was educated in the district schools of his neighborhood, and throughout his active years has followed the dual occupations of farming and carpen- tering. He has also given some attention to the raising of live stock and to horticul- ture, in which he has been very successful. His farm is eligibly located and is main- tained at the highest standard of excellence, being considered one of the productive farmsteads of this locality. On June 24, 1868, Mr. Parker married Miss Mary McKinnon, daughter of John and Margaret (Macdonald) McKinnon. She was born at Vernon River, while her parents were natives of Scotland. To Mr. and Mrs. Parker have been born seven children: Margaret J., William W., George H., Emma A., John C., Ernest L., deceased, and Annie E. A public spirited and progressive citizen, Mr. Parker has earned and enjoys the warm regard of his fellow citizens.
