the Magdalen Islands. He is a man of wide general information and is an eloquent and forceful speaker. He is widely known throughout Prince Edward Island and is most highly thought of by all who know him.
THOMAS MCLELLAN, who owns and Operates a fine farm in Lot 57, his postoFfice address being Eldon, and who has also enjoyed splendid success as a steamboat agent, was born on the farm on which he now resides and is a son of John and Ellen (Halliday) McLellan. The father was born at Longford, Ireland, and came to Prince Edward Island in about 1840, locating on the present homestead. Here he entered upon active farming operations, which he successfully carried on during his active years, his death occurring in 1890, at the age of eighty-eight years. His wife was a daughter of Thomas Halliday, and grand— daughter of Thomas Halliday, an architect, who came from Edinburgh, Scotland. To the subject’s parents were born the follow- ing children: Thomas; John, a farmer in Lot 57; Jane, the wife of William Usher, of California; Tillie, wife of Clarendine Bates, of Portland, Maine; Catherine, the wife of John McTavish, of Eldon; Mary Ann, deceased.
The subject of this sketch received a good education in the public school of his neighborhood and has since attaining mature years given much of his attention to agricul- tural matters, in which he has achieved a gratifying degree of success. In addition,
. he acts as local agent for the North Ameri- can Steamship Transportation Company, having full charge of the wharf and busi- ness here. He is energetic and untiring in

his efforts and has proven an able and popu- lar agent. Mr. McLellan married Miss Catherine McIsaac, a daughter of Roderick McIsaac and granddaughter of Malcolm McIsaac, who came on the ship “Polly" from Uist, Isle of Skye, Scotland, in 1803, locating at Wood Islands. To Mr. and Mrs. McLellan have been born the following children: John Alex, Margaret J., Clara Belle and Mary Salena. Mr. McLellan has always taken an intelligent interest in the general welfare of the community, giving his support to those men and measures which most nearly represent his own views as to public policy and action. He is well known throughout this section of the Island and is popular with all who know him.
JOHN ANGUS COLLINGs, who conducts a‘ successful merchandise business at Sturgeon and also operates a fine farm of eighty-three acres near by, was born at this place on the 28th of March, 1863, and is a son of John and Catherine (McKinnon) Collings, the former a native of the River John, Nova Scotia, and the mother of Highfield, Prince Edward Island. The father, who died on the 25th of June, 1903, at the age of seventy- eight years, was born on the 3rd of Ju'iy, 182 5, came to Prince Edward Island in 1831 and during his active years successfully followed farming and merchandising.
The subject of this sketch received a good district school education and was reared to the life of a farmer, having been engaged with his father until the latter’s death, when he became sole proprietor of the farm and merchandise business.
