were devoted to farm labor, to which line of effort some of his mature years have been given. He has also conducted a black- smith shop on his place and is considered a neat and skillful workman. his services being in constant demand by his neighbors. As agent for the Massey-Harris Harvester Com- pany, Mr. Hayes has succeeded in placing a large number of modern and up—to-date farming implements and machines in this 10- cality and is considered a thoroughly reliable and sagacious business man. Mr. Hayes is a magistrate for Prince county and a com- missioner for the taking of affidavits. He is a Liberal in politics and is active in the sup- port of his party. In 1887 Mr. Hayes mar— ried Miss Prezza Frost. a daughter of John Frost, of Lot 16, though bom in England. To Mr. and Mrs. Hayes have been born three children, Ella. Fred and Claude. all of whom remain at home.

PHILIP M. ARSENAULT. who. since 1892, has been successfully engaged in the lobster packing business at Chrysostum, Lot 15, Prince county, was born at Rocky Point, Lot 15, and is a son of Mark F. and Emi- lienne (Bernard) ‘Arsenault, the latter a daughter of Andrew and Mary (Gallant) Bernard. Mark F. Arsenault was also born at Rocky Point and has been engaged in the tilling of the soil during all his mature years. His farm comprises one hundred and fifty acres and is numbered among the best farms in the community. He takes a deep interest in the public welfare and has served as super- visor of roads, and is now magistrate for Prince county and postmaster at Chrysos- tum. In religion he belongs to St. James’ church at Egmont Bay, of which he is a rul-

ing elder. In politics he is a Liberal. The paternal grandfather, Hilliaron Arsenault, was born at Malpeque, this county, and in about 1815, when seven years old, came to Rocky Point, where he remained during the rest of his life, 'his death occurring in 1903, at the advanced age of ninety-five years. He owned the present homestead farm, which comprises one hundred and fifty acres. This was cleared and rendered fit for cultivation largely through his personal efforts. The paternal great-grandfather, John Baptiste Arsenault, came from Nova Scotia to Mal- peque. Hilliaron Arsenault married Miss Lazie Gallant, a daughter of Maxim Gallant, who came from Malpeque to Rocky Point, and to this union were born two children, Mark F., father of the subject, and John L. Mark F. and Emilienne Arsenault became the parents of nine children.

The subject of this sketch remained with his parents until reaching years of maturity and spent his early years in farm work. In 1892. as above stated, he entered upon the business of packing lobsters for market, and to this end be consolidated several factories with his own. now owning the largest enter- prise of the kind on the shore from Summer- side to North Point. His factory turns out an average of about seven hundred cases an- nually. the larger part of which is shipped to Halifax. In the winter months his attention is largely devoted to the handling of smelts. He has opened a general store and is now building a gasoline boat for use in connection with the lobster factory. He is also doing a big business in the handling of hard shell clams, and is going to. carry produce to Chatham and Miramichi, New Brunswick. He is a man of splendid business ability and sound judgment and has achieved a distinct success in his line and enjoys a good reputa-
