tion among those who best know him. Mr. Arsenault married Miss Maggie Gallant, a daughter of John F. Gallant, postmaster at Fifteen Point, and to this union have been born the following children: Dina, born July 17, 1896; Alyre, November 6, 1898; Donat, August 19, 1901 ; Edmond, August 30, 1902; Menny, August 7, 1904. and Emidie. March 26, 1906.

JOHN J. GALLANT, who enjoys an excel- lent reputation as a practical and success- ful farmer, and who is conducting an extens- ive business as a lobster packer at Mt. Car- mel, Prince county, was born in this locality and is a son of. Joseph Gallant, a farmer who also was born here. The paternal grand- father, Joseph Gallant, Sr., was a native of Malpeque, this province. The subject’s mother was Ursula Arsenault, a daughter of Joseph Arsenault, of Egmont Bay, Lot 15. The subject received his education in the district schools of the locality in which he was born and was reared to the life of a farmer, to which he has consistently devoted his attention during the subsequent years. He owns what is conceded to be one of the best farms in this locality, it comprising two hundred and forty acres, nearly all of which are under the plow and which is improved with a set of splendid buildings and other accessories. Mr. Gallant was the first per- son to engage in lobster packing at Mt. Carmel, in which he has been employed during the last twenty-one years. He employs eighteen persons and five boats and puts up annually about three hundred cases. He is a sagacious business man and his deal- ings with his fellow citizens have been char- acterized by a high sense of honor and fair—

ness, so that he now enjoys the sincere regard of all who know him. He is an active sup- porter to the Conservative party and takes an intelligent interest in public affairs. His religious affiliation is with the Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic church.

Mr. Gallant married Miss Marie Gallant, a daughter of Sylvain Gallant. and to them have been born the following children, namely: Ursule, Theodosie, Honore, Jos- ephine, Angeline, Eugenie, Julie Anne, Louise, Cyrus, Alfred, Edna. Mrs. Gallant’s paternal grandmother, who still lives, was one of the first settlers of Mt. Carmel, hav- ing come from Malpeque in 1812, at the age of six years. This venerable centenarian, who still retains her health to a remarkable degree, lives in the home of her son, Sylvain J. Gallant.

Fratemally Mr. Gallant is a member of the Catholic Mutual Benefit Association and was president of this body at one time, now holding the office of chancellor of the branch at Mt. Carmel. He has always taken a deep interest in all matters concerning education. and wisely provides his children with good ' instruction. His two eldest daughters are at present engaged in the teaching profession, and two others are pursuing courses of study at the Miscouche convent school.

JOSEPH BLANCHARD, a highly esteemed citizen of Egmont Bay, Lot 15, who occupies the responsible position of inspector for the Acadian schools of Prince Edward Island, was born in 1873, in Lot 24, and is a son of Gracill'ian and Lucy (Doncet) Blanchard, the latter being a daughter of Joseph and Mary (Gallant) Doncet.
