PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND.
(Jacques) Gallant, who, on June 20, 173 5, at the age of twenty-two years, married Miss Josepte Boudrot, one of nine sisters. The great-great-great-grandfather was Michel Hache (also known as Hache-Gal- lant), who married Ann Cormier, probably in Nova Scotia, and afterward came to Prince Edward Island and settled at Port La Joie (now Charlottetown). The subject’s mother was a daughter of Francois and Agnes (Arsenault) Gaudet and granddaugh- ter of Joseph Gaudet, also called Jos Cha- culot, who married Agnes Arsenault. The latter was a daughter of Joseph Arsenault, also called Joe League and Oil“, meaning a league and a half, the name being derived from the fact that where he once lived, an Englishman asked him one day the distance to a certain place; he answered “A league and off,” meaning a league and a half, hence the name’Joe League and Off. Jos Chaculot was a son of Augustin Gaudet and married Blanche Bourque. The latter had a sister, Rose, who married Cyprien Arsenault, grandfather of the late Senator Arsenault, of Abrams Village.
. The subject of this sketch received a good practical education in the public schools of Egmont Bay and St. Eleanors. He taught school for six years on Prince Ed- ward Island and three years in St. Marys Bay, Nova Scotia. In 1867 he entered as clerk in the general business store owned by the late Senator Arsenault at Abrams Village and until 1898 served as such in said business. In the fall of 1898 he bought out the business stand at said place where he has since continuously engaged, enjoying a large and steadily increasing patronage. He carries a large and well selected line of such commodities as are in most general demand by the local trade and his dealings

have been characterized by a degree of fair- ness and justice which have commended him to the favor of his fellow citizens. In politics he is a Conservative and in religion a member of the Egmont Bay Catholic church.
Mr. Gallant has twice been married. In
.1868 he married Miss Eulalie Arsenault, a
daughter of Maurice and Julie (Arsenault) Arsenault, of Abrams Village, to whom have been born the following children: J. N. A., a farmer in Lot 15; Rev. John T., who is associated with Bishop McDonald at the Episcopal palace in Charlottetown; Jo- seph, who is in business with his father; Ma- rie C., the wife of Joseph 0. Robichaud, of Metteghan River, Nova Scotia; Julie Anne, deceased; Julie Anne (second), wife of Peter Gallant, of Lot 15; Evangeline, “Sis- ter Gallant,” of Toledo, Ohio; Jan Maurice, who is with his father on the home farm. In June, 1883, Mr. Gallant married the second time, having been a widower for two years; he married Rosalie, widow of Josue Pothier, and daughter of Jean and Julie ( Surette) Bourque, of Ste. Anne, Eel Brook, all of Yarmouth county, Nova Scotia.
The homestmd is well located, being within a mile from the shore at Abrams Village and is considered one of the valuable farms of the locality.
REV. S. BONDREAULT, the able and popu— lar pastor of St. James’ Catholic church at Egmont Bay, Lot 15, Prince county, is a native of the Magdalen Islands, Quebec, Canada, and a son of John,and Angelica Bondrwult. The maternal grandmother, Louisa Bondreault, lived to the remarkable age of one hundred and seven years. The
