subject attended the public schools of his neighborhood, supplementing this by a course of study in St. Dunstan’s College, at Charlottetown, and at St. Teresa, near Montreal, completing his philosophical and theological studies at the Grand Seminary at Montreal. He was ordained into the priesthood in 1876 and was assigned to St. Anthony’s church at Bloomfield, where he \ remained two years, and at Amherst, Mag- dalen Islands, where he also remained two years. He came to Egmont Bay in 1882 and has thus been pastor of this church for a quarter of a century. Father Bondreault is a man of deep learning and marked piety, combined with which he possesses a winning personality and business ability of a high order. Since assuming the pastoral charge at Egmont Bay he has built up and solidi- fied the varied interests of the church at this place, which is now considered one of the most advanced parishes in this section of the province.
EDWIN DARBY, who is numbered among the enterprising and successful farmers of Lot 15, Prince county, was born in Lot 17, and is the adopted son of Capt. Benjamin Darby. The latter was also born in Lot 17 and was a magistrate for many years and captain in the militia corps.
The subject of this sketch secured his education in the district schools of the local- ity. He has in connection with his farming operations, carried on quite extensively a tannery and harness shop, to all of which he has given an intelligent attention and in which he has achieved a definite and grati- fying degree of success. His farm is located near Abrams Village, is highly improved

with a full set of neat and commodious buildings and the general appearance of the place indicates the owner to be a man of sound judgment and excellent taste. Mr. Darby has taken a deep interest in local pub- lic affairs and served as commissioner for the settlement of small debts until that court was abolished. He is now magistrate of Prince county, having held this office con- tinuously during the last forty years. In politics he is a supporter of the Liberal party and in religion he is a member of the Church of England.
Mr. Darby married Miss Amelia VVil- liams, who came from Plymouth, England, in 1842, a daughter of William \Villiams, an excise officer. To the subject and his wife have been born the following children: Sarah, the wife of Thomas Tanton, of Lot 17; Mary, the wife of Archibald McCaus- land, of Lot 5; Eliza, the wife of Benjamin Tanton, of Lot 17; Kate, a trained nurse residing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Carrie, the wife of Edward Ireland, of Alberton; Ellen, widow of A. C. Brown, deceased, of California; Benjamin B, of Owatonna, Minnesota, editor and proprie- tor of the People’s Press, a leading Demo- cratic paper in that section; William S., of St. Paul, Minnesota, superintendent of con- struction for the St. Paul, Minneapolis & Omaha Railroad; George T., a railroad bridge builder of Minneapolis and superin- tendent of bridges for the St. Paul, Minne- apolis & Omaha Railroad; Harry A., who resides on the old homestead, and is secretary of the Farmers’ Institute and also secretary of the Egmont Bay cheese factory. The subject and his family move in the best social circles of the community and are highly esteemed by all who know them.
