Fraternally he is a member of the Knights of Columbus and his religious membership is with the Wellington parish of the Roman Catholic church. He is a gentleman of many fine personal qualities of character and enjoys the esteem and confidence of all who know him. Martin Martin, M. D. , who is not only a leading and successful member of his pro¬ fession in Lot 57, but who is also equally suc¬ cessful in the conduct of a general merchan¬ dise business at , is a native son of Prince Edward Island , having been born in Lot 57, and a son of Alex and Mar¬ garet (McLeod) Martin. The father was also a native of this locality and spent his entire life here in farming, in which he was fairly successful and enjoyed a high stand¬ ing among his fellow citizens. He died in 1905, at the advanced age of eighty-five years. His wife was a daughter of William McLeod , of Valleyfield , Lot 59, but who came originally from the Isle of Skye , Scot¬ land. The subject's paternal grandfather, Martin Martin, Sr., was born in the Isle of Skye , Scotland , and was a passenger on the historic ship "Polly," which landed at this province in 1803. He first located at ( Road) on a farm and in his day was considered a leader among his neighbors. The subject of this sketch received a good public school education and supple¬ mented this by attendance at Prince of Wales College. Having decided upon the medical profession as his life work, he then attended Trinity Medical College and Toronto University, at Toronto , where he graduated in 1880, with the degree of Doc¬ tor of Medicine, taking first class honors in the various branches of medical science and the silver medal for the four years' course of studies. Immediately upon the conclu¬ sion of his technical studies, the Doctor returned to his home locality and here has since been actively engaged in the practice, in which he has met with abundant success, his practice extending over most of Queens county and a large part of Kings. He is thoroughly grounded in a knowledge of the healing art and carries with him that per¬ sonal attitude which inspires confidence on the part of the patient and materially assists the efforts to bring back health and spirits. In association with his nephew, Alexander Mathieson , the Doctor owns a large and well stocked general merchandise store at , which is successfully managed by the junior partner. The enterprise is numbered among the leading concerns of the locality and enjoys a large and con¬ stantly increasing patronage. The Doctor is a staunch supporter of the Liberal party and has served as health officer for Lots 57 and 58. * Dr. Martin married Miss Maggie Bruce , a daughter of Angus Bruce , of , and a brother of Drs. Dan and John Bruce, of Massachusetts . To the Doctor and his wife have been born the following children: Alex, Angus , Florence E . and John Angus .
