On the 6th of October, 1886. Dr. Jenkins married Miss Helena Josephine Sweeney , who was horn at Charlottetown on Septem¬ ber 3, 1862, a daughter of Patrick and Jo¬ anna Sweeney, and to them were born the following children: John S., Mary E ., Helen J., Nora I., Margaret Louise , Hilda A., Louis Charles and Stephanie, living, and Frances and Joseph, deceased. Col. Daniel Stewart , who conducts a leading bakery in Charlottetown and who has for many years been prominent in mili¬ tary affairs on the Island, was born at Georgetown , Prince Edward Island , on Jan¬ uary 6, 1849. His great-grandfather was John Stewart , of Perthshire, Scotland , and as an interesting fact it may be stated that the subject of this sketch lias in his pos¬ session a memorandum book which was at one time the property of this John Stewart , and which contains receipts for rents, minis¬ ter's stipend and schoolmaster's salary, and many other matters of interest. Col. Stew ¬ art's grandparents were James and Mar¬ garet ( Walker) Stewart, the former born in Perthshire, Scotland , on November 12, 1765, and the latter born in 1775, and died in 1816. James Stewart came to Prince Ed ¬ ward Island in 1818, at which time he had a family of six sons, one son and the mother having died in Scotland . They located at Brackley Point , where they received a free grant of three hundred acres of land in the woods. They cleared and improved .the place and it is still in the possession of their descendants. James Stewart possessed all those sturdy characteristics for which the Scotsman is noted, and, being energetic and progressive, occupied a leading position in his community. The Colonel's parents were William and Janet (Campbell) Stewart, the former born August 9, 1810, in Perthshire, Scotland , and the latter in Montague, Prince Edward Island . William Stewart left home when a young man, and first located in Georgetown , where he married. He had served an apprenticeship at the baking trade and thereafter was employed at that voca¬ tion a number of years at Charlottetown , but eventually returned to Georgetown , that be¬ ing his home during the remainder of his life. Daniel Stewart remained under the pa¬ rental roof until about twelve years of age, when, m i 860, he came to Charlottetqwn, and here learned the baking business, with which he has ever since been connected, be¬ ing now the owner of the leading establish- ment of the kind in the city and command¬ ing a large trade. Pride is taken in the pu¬ rity and high standard of the products of this house, points of excellence which have long been appreciated by the public. On May 3, 1871, Colonel Stewart was united in marriage with Miss Sarah Jane Cameron , who was born at Brackley Point , Prince Edward Island , a daughter of Allen Cameron ., To them have been born the fol¬ lowing children: (1) William Allen is now with the firm of Moore & McLeod. (2) Wallace is associated with his father in the baking business. (3) Charles is engaged with the Bell Telephone Company, being manager of the Barrie district, in Ontario .
