and George engaged in a general merchan- dise business in Charlottetown. The other children in the family were as follows: Mrs. Yonker, deceased; Mrs. Coles, deceased; Mrs. Donald Mathewson is now living at Rustico and is, at the age of eighty-nine years, in the enjoyment Of excellent health. TO George and Elizabeth Hooper were born seven children, four sons and three daugh— ters. all of whom are now living. Cap D. L. Hooper, the subject of this sketch, spent his early school days in Milton, and then took a course in the Charlottetown Business College, receiving a diploma in 1875. A few years later he engaged in busi- ness in which he has since successfully con- ' tinued. In 190I he added to the general line he was carrying, a special feed department, which has proven a wise investment. The Captain possesses good business ability, and has built up a large and successful business. He is held in the highest esteem by all who know him and stands for the best interests of the community. During the past twelve years he has served efficiently as a member of the Charlottetown city council. His fra- ternal relations are with the Masons, the Foresters and the Orangemen. On December 9, 1885, Captain Hooper married Miss Mary S. Robinson, daughter Of the late John W. Robinson, who, with a brother, owned Rob- inson’s Island, being one Of the leading and representative farmers. Their children are James Parker, Muriel and Verna.
Captain Hooper has taken an active in- terest in military affairs, having first en— listed in 1873 in Major Pollard’s NO. I Artillery Company, in which he continued until the organization Of the Charlottetown Engineers, which he joined under Major DOherty, remaining until he became lieu-

tenant in Company N O. I, Eighty-second Battalion, Infantry, with which he is stillcon- nected. He has been captain of Company No. I for some ten years, and at present is pay- master. The Captain has, from his boyhood, been a splendid shot and holds many medals and first-class prizes, among which are sev- eral medals from governors general. He has been a member Of the Wimbledon team sev- eral years, having accompanied the team to England in 1887, while in 1890 he also be- came eligible to accompany the team to Biseley, England, but was unable to attend.
DONALD NICHOLSON, a public spirited and successful farmer in Lot 62, was born in Canada, in November, 1858, and is a son of Donald and Mary (McEachern) The subject's paternal grandfa- ther, Samuel Nicholson. came to Prince Ed- ward Island in 1803 in the ship “Polly” and settled at Eldon, where he followed farming. The subject’s father was born at Eldon, Prince Edward Island, and has followed farming throughout his life. TO him and his wife were born five children, Mangus, Christie, Donald, and two that died in infancy. '
The subject Of this sketch secured his education in the district schools and was reared to the life Of a farmer, which voca- tion he has followed continuously up to the present date, 1906. He is the owner of seventy-eight acres of land located in the Little Sands district, near Wood Islands, which land he purchased in 1887, and forty- five acres Of which are under the plow and in a high state Of cultivation.
