went to Rome and there studied rhetoric, philosophy and theology at the School of the Propaganda, Rome, for seven years. Returning then to Charlottetown he was en- gaged in parochial work for five years and was then appointed parish priest at Hope River, where he served efficiently for three years and then was appointed in charge of his present parish at Bloomfield, where he has been located during the past fourteen years and where he has accomplished much in the way of building up the parish numer- ically and spiritually. This congregation worships in a magnificent structure and is considered one of the leading bodies of the denomination in Prince county. Father Gal- lant is a man of marked intellectuality, deep purpose and forceful individuality and has not only endeared himself to his parishion- ers but has won and retains the respect of the entire community. regardless of denom- inational lines. -

ANGUS R. MCKENZIE, who successfully operates a mill at New Port, Kings county, was born at Mitchel River. Prince Edward Island. on December 18. 1868. and is a son of Murdick and Christy (Graham) McKen- zie, the former a native of the Isle of Skye. Scotland, and the latter of Prince Edward Island. though her father was a native of Stornway. Scotland. The paternal grand- father, who was a native of Scotland, landed at Charlottetown on September 18, 1840. The subject’s father died in 1882 and his mother on February 9. 1890.

ing at the same time inured to the hard toil and persistent industry so essential to success in that calling. In May, 1889, Mr. McKen- zie went to the United States and during the following eleven years was engaged in the construction of elevators, being in the em- ploy of the Whittier Machine Company. Since his return to Prince Edward Island he has engaged in milling as his principal occupation, in which he has been very suc- cessful, the product of his mill being sold to the local trade and being in great demand. Mr. McKenzie has twice been married, first to Miss Helen S. Williamson, a native of Scotland as was her father, James \Villiam- son. and to this union have been born three children: Christie, James W. and Arthur. After the death of his first wife Mr. McKen- zie married on April 16, 1901, Miss M. M. McLean, a daughter of James and Anna Lavinia (Richards) McLean, natives of Prince Edward Island, and they have be- come the parents of two children: Annie and Cotter. The family are members of the Presbyterian church. are popular mem- bers of the social circles in which they move and are held in the highest regard in their community because of the public spirited interest they take in all movements looking to the advancement of the best interests of the neighbourhood.

JAMES CADIGAN, a leading citizen and prosperous farmer in Lot 2. Prince county, was born in this Lot on April 2, 1861, and is a son of Christopher and Mary (O’Rourke) Cadigan, who came to Prince Edward Island in 1852 and settled at Pal- mer Road. which was at that time little better than an unbroken forest.
