until 1896. Within the same year he joined No. I Company of Artillery, with the rank of lieutenant, and in 1904 he organized Ar- tillery Company No. 4, a new one, of which he became captain. Upon the amalgamation of'the four Island companies into two, in June, 1905, the subject became major of No. 1 Company, which position and rank he now holds. His fraternal affiliations are with the Independent Order of Odd Fel- lows, the Sons of England, the Canadian Order of Foresters and the Ancient Order of United \Vorkmen.
On November 24, 1896, Mr. Leigh was married to Miss Laura Edith Brecken, of Charlottetown, a daughter of the late John Brecken. Reared, educated and thor— oughly domesticated on this Island, he could not be more devoted to it if it were the land of his nativity.

He is indebted to the public schools of Charlotte- town for his educational training, upon the completion of which he entered the employ of Stanley Brothers, dry goods merchants. with whom he remained nine years. He then engaged with \Veeks & Company. taking charge of their retail department. which po- sition he retained nine years. On November 27, 1901, Mr. W hear was united in marriage to Miss Maude Cook, a native of Charlottetown and a daughter of George H. Cook, the well known photog- rapher of Charlottetown. Fratemally Mr. \Vhear is a member of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons and the Sons of England. A man of strong personality, genuine worth and pleasing address, he is well liked by all who know him.
GEORGE H. TAYLOR, the genial proprie- tor of one of the leading jewelry stores of Charlottetown, was bom in Norfolk county, England, in 1854. He received his education in his native land and there learned the trade of jeweler under the instruction of his father, Dennis Taylor. In 1881 Mr. Tay- lor came to Prince Edward Island and en- gaged in the jewelry business at Summer- side, which he continued some six months. at the end of which time he came to Char- lottetown and bought out the business of John McKay, on Sunnyside, which he has since successfully continued. He here car- ries a large and well selected stock such as is usually found in first—class jewelry stores and enjoys a representative trade in the community. He possesses excellent business qualifications and has succeeded in reach— ing a leading place among his business colleagues.
In 1882 Mr. Taylor was united in mar- riage to Miss May Robinson. a native of Norfolk. England, and a daughter of John Robinson, of the same place. To this union have been born the following children:
