He afterward took up the carriage and implement business in partnership with John West, but soon afterward bought out the later’s interest and carried on the busi— ness on his own account. About a year previous to his death, Mr. McLeod was compelled, owing to con- tinued ill health, to retire from active public life, a fact deeply regretted by all who knew him. A splendid speaker, a keen de- bater and able man, he was regarded as one of the leading citizens of this province, while in private and business life he enjoyed un— bounded confidence and respect. On July 11, 1883, Mr. McLeod married Miss Mar- garet McRae,of Kingston,Ontario. a daugh- ter of Daniel McRae, a native of Scotland.
