Mr. Arsenault was married to Miss Emily Bernard, a daughter of Joseph and Lisette (Gallant) Bernard. Joseph Ber- nard was a son of Simon and Lisette (Gal- lant) Bernard, the latter being a daughter of Laurent Gallant, who was a son of Joseph Gallant. To the subject and his wife have been born six children.
WILLIAM McMURDo, a most successful business man and representative citizen of Summerside, was born in Lot 19, Prince county, Prince Edward Island, on January 27, 1849. His paternal grandfather, Archi— bald McMurdo, who was a native of Dum- fries, Scotland, came to Prince Edward Island in the early part of the last century and located at New Dumphries, Lot 19, where he engaged in farming. He lived to the age of eighty years. To his marriage to Miss, Catherine Jardine, of Dumfries, Scotland, were born six children, four sons and two daughters. One of these sons, Archibald, the subject’s father, who was born at New Dumphries, continued tolreside on the original homestead which is still in the possession of the family. His farm com- prised nearly four hundred acres of land, and he also bought a farm at Clifton, Nova Scotia, which he afterward disposed of. He married Miss Jennette Stavert, a native of Wilmot Valley, Prince Edward Island, and to them were born nine children, seven sons and two daughters, all of whom are still living. In 1895 the parents of these chil- dren celebrated their golden wedding anni— versary. Mr. McMurdo died in 1901, at the age of eighty-one years, and his wife in 1900, at the age of eighty years.

in the order of birth in the above-mentioned family, spent his school days at New Dum- fries, and in about 1875 came to Summer: side and entered the employ of Robert T. Holman, with whom he remained about ten years. Then, in partnership with his brother David J., George W. Warren and S. M. Hicks, Mr. McMurdo engaged in a general mercantile business at Summerside. In 1903 Messrs. Hicks and Warren withdrew from the firm, the business being continued by the McMurdo brothers. They enjoy a large and constantly increasing trade and are numbered among the loading and sub- stantial business men of Summerside. In religion William McMurdo is a Presbyte- rian and for twenty years has served as an elder in his church. His fraternal relations are with the Independent Order of Forest- In July, 1877, Mr. McMurdo was united in marriage with Miss Agnes Bre- haut, a daughter of James Brehaut, of Mur- ray Harbour South, and to them have been born the following children: J. Archibald, D. D. 5., who is mentioned in the following. paragraph: Charles Bell, who is in the Canadian Northwest; May B., deceased; and \Villiam, who is connected with the Merchants’ Bank of Prince Edward Island at Summerside. ‘ J. Archibald McMurdo was born at Summerside, Prince Edward Island, on June 30, 1878, and secured his elementary education in the public schools. He then became employed in his father's store, where he remained six years, when he took up the study of dentistry in the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, where he graduated with the class of 1902. He stood at the had of his class of sixty-eight members and was the winner of the diamond medal. After spend- ing a couple of months in traveling, he took
