groceries and such other merchandise as was demanded by the local trade. In this he has been successful and is enjoying a steadily increasing patronage.

In 1877 Mr. Lane married Miss Anna Poole, a daughter of Edward and Elizabeth (Finley) Poole. Her paternal grandfather was John Poole, who was the first precen- tor in the Charlottetown Methodist church. Her father- was a native of England and after coming to this country followed mill- ing, owning grist, saw and carding mills. To Mr. and Mrs. Lane have been born three children, two who died in infancy and Lucy E., who now resides at home. Mr. Lane supports the Liberal party, and in religion is a Methodist, while fratemally he was for- merly a member of the Improved Order of Knights of Pythias. He has spent his entire life in this community, is well liked by all and enjoys the absolute confidence and good will of those who know him.

JAMES A. C. RODGERSON, M. D.. a lead— ing member of his profession in Lot 50, was born at Pisquid, Prince Edward Island, on August 12, 1866, a son of James and Isa- bella (Cummings) Rodgerson. His grand- parents were James and Mary (Arbing) Rodgerson, the former having been a native of Dumfries, Scotland, where he was edu- cated and then followed farming. In 1830 he emigrated to Prince Edward Island and located at Suffolk, where he died in 1881. His wife's death occurred in 1886. The lat- ter, Mary Arbing, was a native of Devon- shire, England, and to their union were born nine children, namely: Samuel. deceased; Adam, of Peakess; David, of Boston, Massachusetts; Thomas, of Pisquid; James,

father of the subject of this sketch; Mar— garet, deceased, who was the wife of Samuel Jay; Sarah, who died-in 1874; Rachel, the wife of Henry Pigott, and Mary, the wife of Francis McRee. In politics the father of these children was a Liberal and in religion a member of the Presbyterian church. James Rodgerson, who was born in Pisquid in 1833, received a district school education‘ and later took up the occupation of farming, which he still continues. He is a faithful member of the Presbyterian church and in politics a Conservative. He married Miss Isabella Cummings, a daughter of Alex- ander Cummings, of Mount Stewart, and to them were born seven children: David, George Albert and Thomas, all of Rumford Falls, Maine; Frederick, who lives in the paternal home at Pisquid; James Alexander Cummings, the subject of this sketch; Rose Alice, widow of H. James Ross; Ada Rachel, deceased.

James A. C. Rodgerson was educated in the public schools at Pisquid and at Prince of Wales College, Charlottetown. In 1892 he entered Dalhousie University, where he graduated in 1896 in the art course, receiv- ing the degree of Bachelor of Arts. Having determined upon the medical profession as his life work, he then entered the medical department of the same school in which he graduated in 1900, taking the gold medal and receiving the degree of Doctor of Medi- cine. The following ywr was spent on H. M. S. “Governor” as surgeon. In No- vember, 1900, he came to Vernon River Bridge and entered upon the active practice of his profession in which he has achieved a distinctive success. Thoroughly edu- cated in the technical knowledge of his pro— fession and having gained valuable expe— rience since entering upon his active work.
