the latter in Charlottetown. The paternal grandfather, Hon, Henry A. Johnson, M. D., who also was a native of Lincoln, England, became a successful practicing physician, and was at one time mayor of the city of Louth, in his native shire. He came to Prince Edward Island, with his family, to join his son, the subject’s father, who had come here a year before. The latter came to America in young manhood and took courses at Harvard University, where he was graduated, after which he located at Charlottetown, and there became one of the leading physicians and representative men of his day. His death occurred in 1868, at the early age of thirty—eight years. He was the father of three children, of whom the subject of this sketch is the only living sOn.
Dr. H. D. Johnson attended the pub- lic schools of Charlottetown and then entered Prince of Wales College, after which he attended McGill University, at Montreal, where he was graduated in 1885. His first professional service after gradu- ation was as acting superintendent of an asy- lum for the insane after which he engaged in a general practice, locating at Belfast, Prince Edward Island, where he remained five years. He then removed to Charlotte- town, where he has since resided. His pro- fessiOnal ability has been generally recog- nized and he has long enjoyed a large share of the public patronage. American Surgeons, a United States mili- tary organization. He is a member of the army medical staff for Prince Edward Is- land, with the rank of lieutenant colonel, and during the late Boer war he was captain in the Canadian Field Hospital, holding that position until the close of the war. The Doctor served four years as a member of the city council of Charlottetown, and at the present time he is health officer for the city. He has also acted as president of the Liberal Association of Charlottetown. His fra-" temal relations are with the Masons, the Odd Fellows, the Knights of Pythias, the Foresters, and the Sons of England. The Doctor has always taken a keen interest in outdoor sports and while a student at Me- Gill University he was for three years a member of the football club, as well as of the baseball and cricket clubs, and he is now an active member of the Golf Club at Char- lottetown.
On July 30, 1890, the Doctor was mar- ried to Miss Davina McLeod, a native of Belfast, Prince Edward Island, and a daughter of D. A. McLeod, and to them have been born three children, Hammond, Annie and Kenneth. Of recognized ability and pleasing personality, the Doctor enjoys the good will of all who know him, and has an extensive acquaintance on the Island and elsewhere.
JOHN KICKHAM, M. P., a highly re- spected citizen and a leader in public affairs in Kings county, residing at West Souris, was born in North River, Queens county, Prince Edward Island, and is a son of John and Mary (Cahill) Kickham, both natives of County Tipperary, Ireland.
